Yesterday I was helmet shopping at a couple of local bike shops, and while I was out I stoped at a yamaha shop just because I was told they had a large selection. Well anyway while I was in there a sales person approached me and started talking, he asked me what I rode so I told him I had two tecate4's. he said to me "I used to drink tecate beer I never knew there was a bike named after it, is that made by one of those small comany's like kazuma or somthing?" I told him NO. it is made by kawasaki then he said " oh I know what your talking about its kind like a warrior but smaller, but I thought it was called a mojave or somthing like that" so I tried to explain to this moron that when they came out they were a 2-stroke race quad, and he started to smile like I was BS ing him, now I'm not sure but if your a sales men shouldn't you know what the hell you are talking about. anyway after all that he tried to tell me if I wanted to get somthing a little bigger and faster I should get a new raptor 350 or somthing like that. I tried to tell him that he didn't have a quad in his whole store that could even run in the same race as either of mine and he just started laughing.

Think about it... if a person has any skillz at all, do they want to grow up to be a cycle salesman? No. The shop might have some knowledgeable guys in the back.
But I would think that if someone ended up, for whatever reason, in the position of having to sell cycles for a living they would do whatever they could to get an edge that would help them sell more machines, and learning about the machines would help.

And not once did I see mention of how long this guy was in this job. He could have been new to the position.
Like Chris 142 said, at least he isn't on welfare. As a customer I would have educated the guy myself about the existance of a classic like your Tecate's.

Theres nothing wrong with being a cycle salesman. I have many times toyed with the idea of owning my own atv/bike/sled dealership. Why not work with the machines you love everyday?

And for the guy who didn't know what a Tecate was, well, give him a break. He was probably in infant when the Tecate was being sold.

Plus...
You cant expect everybody to know the name of every quad made. The popular ones like the 400ex, Banshee, Warrier, Kfx/Z400 and the Blaster maybe.
I'll admit I don't know a Wolverine from a Trail boss or a Rancher from a Recon. I don't know a thing about the farm implement quads (ok the 650 kawi has a belt drive---But thats it). I don't have a use for them and they are not my cup of tea.
Does this make me dumb? No. Uneducated? Not really.
How many people here can tell a Peterbilt 379 from a 378 or a Freightliner fld112 from a fld 120? A Jeep YJ from a TJ?
It's all about what your interested in I guess. Doesn't mean that I don't like the farm stuff. Doesn't mean that I won't ride with someone that rides one. Just means that personally I have no use for one.
If I lived in a muddy place or needed something to ride out to the back 40 to fix a fence then I'd probly be real keen on them but not sport quads.
