Reinforced rims question
#1
I was wondering if someone has had a set of rims with the reinforcing rings on the inside. I called ITP and they don't make a dual ring front rim because there isn't enough clearance. I called champion beadlock and they said they would make me a set, but wouldn't guarantee they would clear. If anyone has a set, I am curious where you bought them.
Thanks

I have the exact info that you need!
I bought a set of rims from OMF Racing (great place) for my 2001 DS with reinforcing rings all the way around. The rings on the inside of the front wheels are considerably smaller. They clear perfectly fine on my 2001 DS. When I put them on my 2003, they SEEMED to clear fine - they went on perfect & didin't rub or hit anything. When I went riding I heard somewhat of a hissing noise. I finally figured out that when the suspension would compress and I was turning the ring was hitting the newly designed A-Arm assembly. It was hitting by much mind you - barely even touching. However there is enough contact to cause little shards of aluminum to be torn off. I still haven't found a solution - my best guess for my rims is that if I could find someone with a large enough lathe I could get just 2 - 3mm taken off and then probably never have the problem again (Unless I somehow bend the crap out of the rims, which isn't likely.)
That being said, if you are buying new I would call OMF - speak with Leon he's a really good guy. Tell him what you've got & what I told you about the rims from my 2001 hitting on my 2003 and see if he can come up with a solution from the factory. (This enables him to sell rims to guys with the newer DSs - perhaps he has already made adjustments for this as well?)
Let me know how it goes.

Thanks for the info. I have TBR a-arms coming for my '03 and will compare to see if they will clear. I may order them anyway because I have access to a lathe the turn them down.

Oh cool, maybe I'll have to ship you mine so I can get them trimmed j/k I don't think it would even be worth the postage.
Good luck with your rims.

All total it was like $650-ish for a full set of Holeshot XCTs front & back on brand new rims. I think the rims with both inner and outer rings are $100 /each. You can buy just the rings for like $25/each.
