Default What if.......

I own a Raptor. I bought it thinking I had the fastest quad out there, what a joke. I had the 686 kit and now it has blown for some weird reason. What I want to know is, how easy is it to make the Bomb faster and lighter than stock? I want to get rid of mine and get a Bomb. My 686 had a hard time beating Bomb's with pipes and filter kits. What do you guys think?

the bomb will hold together good, but speed wise they both can be made to go fast.

I agree with what Sandman says, and with the right kit for the Bombardier, you can get both gobs of power, as well as reliability. I wouldn't give up the reliability I've got for ANYTHING and I mean ANYTHING. If it isn't reliable, it isn't worth riding (IMHO.) I need to be able to drive four hours to my riding spot, and KNOW that when I get there my quads will work, the whole day through. Other guys don't mind wrenching, I don't for some things, but I mugh prefur riding to wrenching any day.

You can keep the DS a stock bore, and drop a Piston and a carb in with an endcap , and be way faster than your 686. And still have it been as reliable as a stocker. You will NEVER have to worry" Is this the day my engine/tranny Blows?".

What about the 04 Baja X? Dirt wheels said it was unstable and not as good as the older style. What about the shocks on the Baja X? They are supposed to be pretty good for stock. i dont want to get another sport quad and have to dump gobs of money into the suspension and stuff like that. I want something that I can pretty much just make the motor go faster with an already good suspension.

The 04 Baja X is excellent. It is about 1/2" or 1" shorter than previous years. The shocks on both of my DSs are excellent, and the ones that come on the 04 Baja X are even better. I have yet to hear anyone with a 04 Baja X say anything but glowing reviews of every aspect of the machine.

Blackhawk is right I love my X. This is my first Bomb also. But if you ask some others that have had the older DSs and now have the X they all agree that its much improved from the original DS.

You gotta love all the atv magazines. All they have done for the last three years is bitch and whine about how long/wide/heavy the ds was. So Bombardier gives them what they wanted, and what do they say? "I liked it better the way it was".

Bombardier should have listened to their own tag line on this one. "Follow no one!"

Well said DuneCrazy.

I wouldn't trust the Raptor to heavy mods. The platform just isn't that strong. I would love to put more into my Wife's Raptor but, I am afraid I would run the risk of something letting go if I did.

the DS can take a lot of HP. There is a limit though. I think Scooby is a little past the limit. But, it can take an honest 70HP easy and if you had an honest 70HP your neck would get real sore from looking back at everyone.

Yes, you can build your Raptor to beat a DS. . . the question is. . . do you really want to???
