DG Holeshot and the 650
#2
Module gives more timing advance from 0-5 mph when full throttle is applied and reverts back to stock timing when you let off throttle. Does not make a difference when/if you are already going over 10MPH. Holeshot as the name applies is basically what it does. Best Mod for the Dollar.
Your speed will only be affected if you change out your Drive and or Driven springs. Going to the Black EPI Primary Spring will give you additional low end torque and longer belt life and the Pink, Red, blue, yellow, white, black/white, purple, etc. springs will give you more stall-speed clutch engagement & spring shiftout. You typically loose 2-5 MPH on the topend with the Black Drive spring but longer belt life and more torque is a good trade off. My 650 runs 65MPH with the EPI Black/Red springs. Do a search on the form for Clutch spring test to determine what springs best suite you.

Timed runs will show an improvement from 0 to about 40MPH with a module, but only at full throttle. If you run past 5MPH for more than three seconds and then nail the throttle, no difference. The modules only remove the stock low end timing retard. A module and a key will give you improvement up to the high end 6500RPM retard, after that, and for a rev limit increase above 8500RPM, you would need a new cdi. There have been no timed tests of a key and module vs. the cdi posted yet. I expect similar results up to about 60MPH since the key/module would actually give more advance than the cdi up to 6500RPM, but after that the cdi should edge it and add some top end, maybe 3MPH or so on a stock machine? The Dyna CDI doesn't do some functions that the stock Igniter does, maybe the MSD version will? The DG Holeshot has been tested by some to be harder hitting on the low end, while modules like the HL one hits better in the mid range. They both run a fixed frequency; low for the DG, and high for the HL one. DG is supposed to releasing some kind of new module to replace the old one that is more advanced than the Holeshot or the HL power pak is. It is sometimes confusing, but at least we now have choices.
