ok im shure ive got a timing problem , when i start it ,it idles and misses , if i give it gas ,,,all it does is back fire, but it doesnt rev up at all, it just idles and misses . i even tried spraying eather in the carb while it was runing and it did nothing , i also sprayed it all arond the carb , it just idles and missed. my mechanic friend thinks it may be a reed thats not seating or may be cracked, he thinks its a air problem because when i floor it doesnt rev up but it back fires, so its geting lots of gass but not the right amount of air . what do you think? also does anyone know if there is a timing mark on the flywheel??

You will need to pull the flywheel off to check the timing there is a mark on the stator and a mark on the case. Also check the keyway on the crankshaft where the flywheel goes .This could be some of your problem.Ive seen the key shear and give the same results that you described. Was the flywheel ever replaced ?

Pull the carb off ,then the rubber intake and the reeds are right there.Give it a shot.

I would check the spark with a timing light and rev the engine to see if the ignition is firing at higher RPMs. If it cuts out, you might have a stator or coil problem....
