Default Help with rear brake line install.

Ok, next issue in my saga

I got the longer brake line and its a shiney steel braded line
Forgive me for the stupid terms here but... It has 2 donuts on each end. The stock 01 DS I NOW find out when I went to install it only has 1 donut on the end and it just slides on the brake then has clamps around it..
This is never going to end!!!!! Now what do I need to make this work?? I really need this part quick..

I think what you are talking about is called a banjo fitting. it has a crush washer on each side of the fitting.some are brass some are aluminum. with a bolt(through bolt) that has holes drilled in the end and side for fluid.

I changed one on a street bike. all I had to do was get the through bolt, and crush washers. the through bolt fit where the stock fitting screws in.

If you are talking about the master cylinder for the rear brakes the switch unscrews out of the end of the master cylinder. That is the part with the wires coming out of it. Take it out and it is just like the bolt you undid at the rear caliper.

mudstud, what are you aying, I don't understand....are you saying your STOCK brake line connects to the master cylinder with clamps? maybe you're confusing the hose that comes from the reservoir to the master cylinder. if you trace the brake line from the caliper back to the master cylinder, you will see that it is a banjo fitting on both ends, and it connects under the hex that the brake light switch is screwed into.

make sure you put a cush washer on both sides of both banjo fittings when you put the new line on.

after installing, you will need to totaly bleed all air. here's the easiest way:
take the cap off the reservoir and fill it with fluid, stick a 3 foot long piece of vinyl tubing onto the bleeder screw on the caliper, open the bleeder screw, stick the other end of the vinyl tubing in your mouth and suck all the air out, make sure to constantly keep refilling the reservoir. once you get fluid coming up the tubing that doesn't mean all the air is out, there may still be trace bubbles in there. close the bleeder screw, work the brake lever a few times, let it sit a while, then open the bleeder screw and suck some more. keep it up until there are absolutely no more tiny bubbles coming out the bleeder, then your done. make sure you keep the reservoir full the whole time you're doing all this.
no need for a vacuum pump, its all too easy.

Hightower, I bet you are correct, I saw the shaft then the hose is clamed on.. I got a bit upset with the feeling that this is NEVER going to get done. I will look closer tonight but if they both have banjos I am fine... I am know I will have to bleed them and that is fine.. Cool . Thanks!

Hey, if it is too much trouble I will buy that swingarm for $50, and then your troubles will be gone.

Bigger, I think this is another identity thing we need to look into, they do look alot alike.
