anyone ran up against one of the new honda's yet?

A friend of mine bought one about a month ago, and I have rode it a few times. I didn't like it all that much, but I only rode it for a short time, and wasn't used to it. I dont really know how well it runs, it is pretty far behind my ds. It was beating our buddies predator though, but the guy on the predator can't ride to well either so I cant really say. I'm sure it is a decent bike, just not for me..

In stock trim they're no match for the mighty DS but add the HRC kit and its a different story. I got beat pretty good on the hill at Dumont by an Eddy Saunders prepped, HRC equipped 450R. I know the guy and I believe him when he said that all he had was the HRC kit and the ESR pipe on a 0 hour (brand new) quad. The ESR influence was mainly pinpoint tuning. I was definately impressed with the power. He had no problems with piped and jetted YFZs either beating them by at least 5 lengths.
I was beating the 450Rs In stock form by 5-6 lengths all day.
My DS is basically a stage 1 without the TM45 carb

The only DS's I have raced were: 1)My friends, which is all stock with a end cap mod, and a K&N, no race, I destroy him.2) A guy at the dunes with a MR. HP end cap, thats all I could see, I did not talk to him. I beat him by more than a few lengths. I have it on film. He tried twice with the same results.
I think in stock form, up a hill the 450r will beat it, on flat is probably a diff. story. That DS is heavy for hill shooting.

so far I raced about ten yfz450s and beat them all. 2 450r's beat one and lost to one with a pipe and cam. and got beat by a pred with some mods. and destroyed every rappy, I mean not even close!

KGB is correct, the 450r with HRC kit does destroy the DS, uphill. We played Sat. 2 Bombs, 2 Yamaha 450's, and 2 Honda 450r's, played musical chairs with riders, and the 450r's cleaned the Yammies, which were consistently beating the DS.

Ran on the 21st March against 450r and unfortunately he was a beginner rider. Beat the Yami450 on the MX Track. His advantage was only in the whoops and the lightness of his machine. Yet to ride one myself, I think that the 450 yami would be the best bike for MX. For sand, the DS is still King with little or minor mods. You can mod anything to be better in a particular terrain.IMO.

I have raced a few of the HRC kit equipped 450 hondas with my baja with an end cap ,big gun cdi ,k&n and jetting and i am running about even with them in a 300 foot uphill sand drag.bigslim78 since we have similar mods i suspect that your results would be about the same as mine and we were racing on comp at florence. You may remember my wifes 440 ex from last summer well we tweaked it a bit here and there and she can hang right with the 450 hondas with the hrc kit as well so she is pleased with that. The first 450 that she raced with the hrc kit she beat and the guy was not pleased especially it was done in front of his riding buddies but its all in fun.

are you guys all for real...... i was at the dunes this weekend and watched hours of racing could see the strip from camp.... there was one or two banshees that ruled the strip.. but the rest of the lineup was YFZs beating Raptors/Z400s/ and DS....... not your DS.. just stock bikes and some modified out there....When i had my DS with a few mods i was neck and neck with the 450s.. and if they had any more mods than a pipe and intake.. they would win.

its power/weight ratio, no rocket science. an R with the HRC kit is putting out DS horsepower carrying 100 pounds less bike weight, you do the math.
even a modded stock bore DS putting out mid 50's in HP in still gonna have a lower power/weight ratio.
if I was a normal size guy instead of being 6'-8" tall, there's a couple new bikes out there that would have my attention on the showroom floor.....but I'm not so I thank God every day for my big yeller bus 'cause no way can I fit on any of the "mini" quads out there...
KGB, when us Flatlanders get out there again this June it'll be fun finding out who's king of the mountain
