I have a chance to buy a 2000 polaris sprtsman 500 for $3000.00. Not sure how many miles on it though. Would this be the
HO 500, or didn't that come out until '01? Does it still have independant rear suspension??? Are these the ones that had
cam shaft problems?? sound like a good deal???

 

Non Ho and yes it has Independent suspesion! I bought mine in November for 3500 with 1900 miles and two bald tires. Put some new rubber on it and a winch and she is one mean machine. I love it. $3000 is not a bad price considering they are 4300 blue book. Jay

Found out it has 1600 miles on it, he is putting it in the paper next week for $3500, but I'm going to see if he will let me
look at it on sunday. I don't mind putting new tires on it, I like to do a lot of mudding so I'd want to upgrade anyways.
Did these have the notorious camshaft problems??? or was that the older ones???

 

I bot my 1999 for $3500 with new plastics and brand new tires on it. I'm not sure if they fixed the problems with the cams by 2000 but they were a problem on the 99s. I had the exhaust lobe go out on the cam this spring. $600 plus to fix it(local mechaninc, dealer would have been $1000+). No regrets though, I love the machine, chance you take when you buy used.
