almost lost to my friends 03 raptor. i want more speed!!

well today i raced my buddy on his raptor and only beat his by about 1/2 quad length. he is all stock and the only mod i have is a 15t front sprocket. is this about normal for a race between these two quads?? i read the posts here and they state that i should beat him by a lot more. The one problem that i had is i kept hitting the rev limiter in almost every gear. it feels like there should be more. but it just hits the limiter.
anyone know what mods i can do that wont hurt the reliablility of my quad and get good hp gains? the only mod i will NOT do is an exhaust. (to damn loud and annoying).
thanks
jeff

Yes, thats about normal for equal weight riders between those two quads. You can buy a diferent CDI to allow you to rev out higher and then you'll be able to beat him by a little more. Have you raced with the stock 16 tooth sprocket? The DS has plenty of power to pull it, maybe you can do better by putting that back on.

Yes and no. Your top speed will be faster and you'll be able to stay in each gear a little longer before shifting. A lot of the DS guys like the Ron Woods CDI, there are others. The gearing may or may not work out for you but you already have it and it's an easy change to try out.

Also...your gearing depends on what type of drag race your doing. Sand and hill shooting with a stock quad. Gear lower. Any type of flat drag with a stock bike...stock gearing or maybe even a little higher if it's not sand.

I forgot to say....be happy you beat your friend this time. Between these to quads in equal form it's a toss up and usually is decided in who get the better hole shot.

Try short shifting its the cheapest performance gain you will every try. The stock DS makes peak power at 6200rpm, your rev limiter doesnt kick in until 7900rpm.
