While we were at the coast today we spotted a ranger and earlier this week i had mentioned to the wife that i was curious what the end cap would come in at for decibel level so she suggested that i stop and ask to have it checked.Well to my surprise it cam in at 102 decibels and the test was out on the flats and the ranger let me read the level meter while she and i both watched the rpms on her gauge so i know it was right.I dont know if this information will be something that any of you would want but here it is just in case.I think that i will be more careful what i let the wife volunteer me for in the future. The funny part was that the ranger says (you know i cant tell you that it is legal for you to continue to ride today and my response was well i am riding either way) so even after i volunteered to have my pipe tested she still had an attitude nice huh'

Yes a MR HP end cap.I am very pleased with the performance gain that i got with it but i was surprised at the level that it put out on the meter.

What other mods do you have with that end cap ?I'm guessing that if a person has a bigger carb the decibles would be different than say some one with a stock carb,Wouldn't you think ?

A little free advise. . .
Next time your driving with your wife and you see a Hwy Patrol. . . Don't let her talk you into pulling over and asking him to clock your speed.
Man, she should be in sales!
My buddy was telling me a story about how he was with his 5 year old by and watching his boy ride in an area away from camp and traffic but, he was standing there drinking a beer (in a bottle). A ranger drove her car across the track to give him a hard time about the bottle and he went off on her. She drove across the track to give a dad that was watching his kid a hard time over a bottle. Approach was wrong and she was totally in the wrong to drive over a track a young rider was on. Basically he went off on her for being an idiot and going through the track. When she finally realized what an idiot she was she left him alone. This is the same ranger that told me to take off my sunglasses because she thought I was going to be a "troublemaker". Funniest thing was when she looked at Jeffnrivercity and told him he couldn't have glass. . . he tapped his fingernail on the wineglass he was drinking out of and said, "Plastic!"
These rangers are overpaid security guards with guns. Sad thing is their poor attitude and approach is rubbing off on the crouds and they are actually hurting the personality of the place we ride (Sand Mt., NV).

approach is the right answer, when we were at ds days, and they came over and took the fire works it was a nice ranger he said it had to do with all the gas cans. and although i felt safe about what we were doing there were several groups that were plain stupid.and would probably think it was funny to try for a accident.

I haven't seen Mr. Hp's end cap, but the mere mention of "billet' implies it must look very nice.
But really, Big F#@king deal. Who can't make a loud exhaust that delivers more power? DUHH?
There is no challenge in making a modified end cap that delivers more power at the expense of noise.
My end cap, by contrast, is "butt ugly". I had to paint it black. A stainless tube, with some stainless welding, and some grinding and polishing, would preclude the need to paint it black, but I had neither at my disposal.
Let's start from the beginning. The DS exhaust is a very good megaphone design that is left incomplete with a very lame, very restictive spark arrestor/end cap. Replacing the restrictive end cap with a design that completes the proven megaphone/reverse cone design, while allowing a free flow tail piece and incorporating a spark arrestor while keeping the noise down is the objective.
That is unless you just want to bother the neighbors, get hassled all the time, and set the forest on fire.
The "Billet End Cap" is all about cosmetics and noise.
"Butt Ugly" is all about performance while just squeaking by the 96dB noise limit, and being able to ride in the National Forests.
No, I won't make you one. But you can copy mine from the photos in my profile. IT is not the end all and be all, I'm sure it could be improved on, but it is a very good start. Enjoy.

VERY TRUE!!!!!!!!!!!
Duneme, when I went to sand MT. NV. I encountered the same lady that your reffering to "I think" She was blond and very foul and bitter. She was giving us ALL a hard time about our rear lights. Her partner even looked at her like she was crazy as she sweated us. I asked her if I could use the high powered glo sticks taped on my rear grab bar and she sais NO!!. So luckily Sandman gave me an extra bulb. That lady has some serious inferiority probs, And I will file a complaint on her and I would like to talk to her supervisor and suggest she change locations, due to her running off good people from public land. I think she wears a cup to hold up her BB ball$$$. LOL
Lets get a bunch of people to call in on her and complain. maybe she wonrt think she is so cool after all.
dunetillude- Could this be the same lady? LOL

annihilater-I doubt if this is the same person and the term lady would be stretching it a bit with the way her attitude and appearance was.You would think that if a person volunteers to have a sound check done and does not pass that they would cut you at least some slack but not this time.I am all for being legal and complying with rules but i am finding it difficult to abide by the sound level that oregon has set for the dunes.I should have figured that this (lady?) didnt have a clue when she called my baja a (bombardero) whatever that is.
