What is the horse power of a stock DS?
I was told by a guy who owns a shop that the DS only puts out 36 HP on the dyno.
Is this true, I thought it was more like 46 hp

 

If you do a search you will see that it ranges from 38 all the way up to 46. Most people seem to agree on 42 or so though.

 

42 is a good average. You are aware that dyno readings are subjective to everything like temperasture, humidity, season, and can only be used a reference for comparing a change. A DS could dyno 36 on one dyno, and 46 on a different dyno sitting right next to it as well. Also you could come back with the exact same setup a day or two later and see different numbers.

 

if you are comparing for other machines that is hard to do.

 

Bombardier website says 48...but every1 on here says around 42...so i dont know!

 

There is also a big difference between RWHP (Rear Wheel HorsePower) and Engine HorsePower. I believe most manufacturers list Engine HP, and dynos used by most shops only test RWHP - so you'll see a huge difference from that as well.

 

Yes, bomb does all of its hp and torque measurements at the crank, unless otherwise specified. This is the number thats supplied on bombs website and their comparison charts. Most of the other numbers for other manufacturers are cranks values as well.

 

Box stock out of the crate, we've seen mostly 42-43hp. 2003 and 2004 numbers have been averaging a little higher at 43-44hp. We've seen one at 46hp.

We always dyno a crate stock DS650 as a baseline for our runs.

As a side note, we've dyno'ed several customers "stock" bikes that only register about 38-40hp. These bikes have been "tuned" by the customer[img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif[/img]. Direct mount air filter, lid off, holes in air box, rejetted, endcap modded by customer, etc...

that doesnt make ne sense...if they did that stuff wouldnt it give them more HP?!?

 

LOL...thats a nice way of saying. If ya don't know what your doing. Ya could make it worse. Tuning is not as easy as it first would seem.[img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif[/img]
