new starter quad for wife and kid
#1
I am going to look for a 2nd atv for my wife and oldest sone to ride... (when he's ready) But I can't make
up my mind... I'm stuck between a new trailboss special edition or a 500ho sportsman.... is it worth all of the
extra money to have 4wd and etc, or will we get by just fine with the TB? I love to go trailriding and really like
the mud and rocks... but my wife usually goes around the fun stuff anyways...
just wondering what everyones/anyones thoughts on this might be if youve ever had make this same
decision. Thanks for your Ideas!!! Dan

I had a 500 and now have a 2002 700. For both of the quads, my wife, who is not a wimp, did not want one of either for herself. Both models were harder to steer than she preferred. But, she can ride them. Depending on how old and large (strong) your son is, I would be concerned of the same thing. I also have a Honda 250EX and a 400EX, we all love the 250EX it's so light yet so snappy, but it is perfect for my younger son. It has the clutchless foot shifter, which my son prefers over the belt drive. The
400 EX is good for my older son, if not too much power. Neither of them wanted a 4x4, they wanted the lighter get up and go and speed of the 2x4. Also, they knew the had the old man on the tank to pull them out if they couldn't get free themselves! Take them to some dealers and let them try some different makes and models. I personaly love my Polaris 700, but both of my boys moved from Polaris belt drives to the Hondas, to each their own. Good luck.

Also the stock Titan 489's and extra gound clearance of the Polaris 2x's make them much more able to go through deeper and nastier stuff than other sport 2x4's.
I was just recently looking at buying a Scrambler 500 4x4 over a V-force, but for almost $3,000 less me and the Old Lady decided on the TBlazer (more for her anyways). Hey, I'm always up for saving money!!
Anyway, I had an 02 Blazer awhile ago, and could follow a 600 Grizzly and Sportsman H.O. all summer long, except when they had to rock back and forth or bounce on the racks it meant my 2x would be stuck. But compared to my bud's Raptor, my cousin's Warrior, and my other bud's EX, those poor fools would always get stuck in the same mud holes I could easily wallow through on the Trailblazer. And I did need that extra time so I could stay a little bit ahead of them, as they would go smokin by once they got unstuck.
Another thing to think about is the less weight of a 2x4 over a 4x4 would make it easier to get unstuck.
Oh, and my neighbor has a Trailboss, and my Trailblazer is just a tad faster accellerating, but both top-speeds are about the same, but mine looks and feels sportier, for what it is.......Just in case the misses didn't like the Trailboss all that much........
