Default A question on lightening a scam 400 4x4...

How much can a 97 scambler 400 4x4 be lightened? What all is removed to do so?

It can be lightened a whole lot especially if you remove the 4wd. Ced on here had a 4 wheel drive scrambler and has since turned it into a hotrod. I have removed around 100lbs off my 2wd, I don't see why you couldn't remove the same amount off a 4wd. I've removed the floorboards and added nerf bars, removed skidplates underneath, cut any metal off that doesn't sacrifice frame strength, removed started and had flyshaved, removed all extra wiring from starter, removed battery, installed batter eliminator, removed oil injector, premix oil, that's some of what I can think of right now.

I don't want to sacrifice my 4x4. I could do without the starter and bat. but why would I need to get an eliminator kit for the bat.? Is there anything that can be don to the swing arm. It looks very heavy. I see alot of people have lost the shroud around the radiator. Is that safe? The skid plates, hummm, I ride the trails, how safe would that be? How much does the elimination of the oil injector save. I guess the loss of the oil tank and the injector itself would be considerable. Does it free up any HP by doing that? I had planned on shaving the flywheel down myself. Is there anything that can be done to the primary and the secondary. I had thought about ditching the 4x4, but I like to climb with it. The floor boards, I never thought of that, those things are hugh. hummmm what else? It seems the bulk of the weight is in the motor/tranny set up. Are the polaris frames more heavy in comparison to other quads or is it mostly in the drive train?

Sorry for all the questions, More than normal for me, but this is something I should do, and want all the info I can get...

The frame is a little heavier, I've got mine down to the 360-370 range. I dune and drag race only, so I removed the front brakes and had the front hubs turned down. It all depends on what you want to do, every little thing adds. I don't run a cooling fan, I have no problem with overheating, but I don't sit and idle or ride at low speeds through terrain with little or no airflow.
