Default SMOKING 400 SPORTSMAN?

MY BUDDY HAS A 400 SPORTSMAN, OIL INJECTED, IT SMOKES PRETTY BAD, CAN THE OIL INJECTOR BE TURNED DOWN, OR WHATS THE BEST FIX? THANKS!!

The oil injection can be turned down. A good manual will show the settings for correct adjustment. The oil injector cable can be adjusted much like a carburator cable. Also make sure he is using quality oil that is intended for motorcycles with injection systems. Two stroke outboard oil is not good enough.

Polaris also makes a syn. oil that is low smoke. Very good oil.

Default SMOKING 400 SPORTSMAN?

Another cause of excessive smoking on the 2 stroke 400's is the crankshaft seal in the balance shaft sump may be starting to fail and allowing oil from the sump to be sucked through to the crankcase.

If the oil pump is adjusted right and a good oil is being used, I would start watching the oil level in the balance shaft sump.
