Default LT80 Exhaust full of gas/won't start/ HELP!

I put the Banshee petcock on the '93 LT80, works good. Left it in the on position for 2 weeks (OOPS!!). Went to pull start it ( my electric start doesn't work). Was really tough to pull, and I noticed gas pouring out exhaust pipe. Opened the exhaust drain plug and gas keeps coming out in spurts. Tried tipping and tilting to get more gas out. Tried cranking with plug out to get rid of excess fuel. Tried drying and heating up spark plug. It won't start now.

Is my reed valve stuck open? (I recently put in a Boyesen reed when I rebuilt top end about 10 hours of use ago). Was running fine.

Is carb needle letting gas flow by? (Took that apart and cleaned it at the same time as rebuild, the needle didn't seem worn at all, it had a nice cone shape, no wear in the cone area).

How long do I need to crank it (pull it) to get enough fuel out, to start it?

Any suggestions to get me started and running properly again?

I'm really tiring of having to go thru the same stuff over and over....starter was fixed, now it doesn't work... carb? reeds?.. who knows if I have to tear into that again. I still need to pull apart clutches and see why i lack power/speed. Where does it end?? I keep hearing good things about what little screamers these LT80s are, but so far i haven't been able to see it first hand. I just want it to run well, hassle free.

Now I'm confused
You say you left the petcock on and you say "oops". BUT,,You allready know that leaving the petcock on is a no-no.
Suzuki has nothing to do with this mistake. Any ATV neds to have the fuel shut off or risk this happening. It has nothing to do with needle, reeds, etc.
Your on the right track,. tip, lean, tilt till all the gas is out. Crank over with throttle ALL THE WAY OPEN. It will start.

LOL, I looked on the map, your too far away for me to come help

Make sure you didn't empty the gas tank. I think that's why Suzuki used the vaccum driven petcock. They figured oops would happen on kids quads.lol I'm not sure why the fuel kept flowing either bad float adjustment or bad needle valve or seat. Could have some crud around the seat area. That's what you get when you buy a project quad and not a new one.lol

thanks guys. LT80 you're right, the mistake is my fault, thus the OOPS, but it just seemed like gas was still flowing past even after I thought I'd pumped lots of gas out the pipe, and IF there had been a problem with carb or reed, then I didn't want to have to fix the same thing again. Thanks for the re-assurance.

I wasn't trying to bash the Suzuki, I'm just getting frustrated and my old LT50 was a never-ending project too. The starter on the 80 still makes me cringe to think of all the work I'll have to do to pull it out again to replace the armature. The rebuilt or new starters are so expensive and I thought I only needed brushes. I was right for about 20-30 starts!! Just like a broken clock is right twice per day.

Fishslab, I'm just a poor Canadian with no $$, so i had to find a cheap project bike.We have all these extra taxes you don't get in Eugene, that's where all your extra $$ comes from. I see a couple of 2000/2001 models for $2000-$2500 (CDN), seems like too much. Plus, I'm so close on this one...., I can taste it!!

When I tried starting bike yesterday, I kept getting soaked plug. How long before it'll start?will i have to keep taking plug out to dry?

I don't know for sure. Sounds like the crank case could be full of fuel. The only thing I'd be worried about is that it has so much fuel it can't be shut off. Shouldn't happen unless it has the air to burn as well but who knows? Does the crank case have a drain? I'm at work and don't have my manual.
Oh yeah Happy Easter!!!

I drained the carb, shut off gas and left the pipe plug out all night. Drained some more fuel this AM. I cranked some more and not as much fuel came out. then I pulled plug, dried it, and cranked some more.Boy, is it ever easier to pull with plug out and no compression. Then I turned on petcock, let gas fill, put dry plug in, held open throttle and it stared in 2-3 cranks (whew!). Ran it for 15 minutes, let kids ride, then put 'er away with petcock OFF!! thanks for the help and re-assurance that i hadn't screwed up something bigger.

Happy Easter Fishslab... guess you're on one of your 3 on or 4 on shifts today hey buddy?

You know it. I hope the bunny treated your kids well this AM. Or do they have like an Easter moose or beaver in Canada? LOL

actually, it's an Easter Eskimo and it hides hockey pucks in the corners of our round igloos. Fishslab, remember what I told you about us Canadians both watching the hockey game?. we train 'em young here.
