'02 SP500 Stuck Rear Axles... Help?
#1
Ok, In the past we've (including me) told everybody how easy it is to just pop the rear CV axles out on the SP500's.
I've got one here that both rear axles will not come out - no matter what kind of persuasion I give it. I am replacing the outer CV's with the Gorilla's, but I also need to change out the seals in the Tranny - so the axles have to come out. It has gotten to the point that one axle has come apart at the inner CV (which ain't supposed to happen until you take the retaining ring out of the cup).
Any ideas/suggestions short of dynamite??

If anybody is interested, here is what I had to do to get the rear CV axles out - I knew I was going to have to replace the left side complete axle, so I removed the axle from the inboard CV cup and welded a 1/2" flat bar on to the face of the CV cup - then I attached a slide hammer that I made from a 8lb sledge hammer head to the flat bar - after about 30 hits with the slide hammer (and rewelding the flat bar 3 times) the CV hub came out - the right side was easier since all I had to do was take a 1" diameter punch and knock it out from the left side.
It has gone back together with half a can of antisieze on the splines
