Default trx250r or lt250r

Well i am trying to make my mind up on which quad to buy.

Here are my two options

92 lt250r

the good:
-150lbs compression
-FMF fatty pipe
-new cascade seat cover
-Runs solid(couldnt get it to idle, but just pulled out of winter storage and need to be played with)
-Tight front end

the bad:
-Needs rear tires
-Plastics are sun faded
-Very minimal amount of rust on the frame. (looks like it was kept outside for a period in its life)

Price $2500 CDN

OR

86 Trx 250r

the good:
-New top end(with recepts)
-Runs good (started right up out of winter storage)
-Know the current owner

the bad:
-Ratty looking
-The Frame needs paint (bit of rust, faded, paint chipping)
-Back plastics faded, front cracked
-Needs seat cover
-Small oil leak(looks like an easy fix)
-Needs front sprocket cover, and mounts made for the cover
-Needs rims and tires
-Needs general tlc

Price $1500 CDN

Well what do you guys think is the better deal. Not affraid of the work, just dont want to loose alot of money into a quad.

Also need a quad that can be modded to spank a banshee, yfz450

I will not be jumping or racing, just want a play bike, that will be plenty fast and decent trail manners(for a 2stroke)

Any opinions???

the 250r.

out of both stock machines the 250r is better. So if you get the 250r you safe a good bit of money on what you would have paid for the LT250. The sprocket guard and mounts will be a breeze. It shouldnt cost too much for those. It seems both bikes need new plastics. To get the frame sandblasted and powdercoated you would spend about $300 american dollars. You're right about the oil leak, most leaks arent hard to fix. I would get new rims and tires for either bike, makes it look newer.

WIth the new plastics, powdercoat, rims and tires, your 250r will look brand new. Its up to you. This was just my 2 sents. GOod luck

ok the oil leak i spoke of is where the clutch cable goes into the engine. I am guessing it needs an oil seal. How hard is this job?

Well folks thanks for the advice. I am buying the 1992 lt250r. Its in much better shape (except fadded plastics) paying $2400 CDN

The guy with the trx250r decided he is going to sell it on ebay, so i said good luck with that and walked away.

Ok I gots a question for you guys now. Had the quad running, and heard a minor tinging noise comming from the engine. Is this normal for a 2stroke quad? (not that loud)

I am used to sleds, but new to two stroke singles. Any input would be appreciated.
