2004 400 4x4 Kodiak problem

I am wanting to know if anyone can tell me how or if it is possible to bypass the stutering or missing action that the bike does when it is in a tough mud hole. This will not let the bike get the necessary gas to go ahead and spin the wheels. Help!

There shouldnt be any studdering or missing in the mud or anytime, you should bring it to the dealer and get them to look at it, it should still be under warrenty.

I have a couple of friends that have the same bike and it also does this. Its almost like it is a rev limiter or something. K know some bikes have it in the reverse gear but it shouldn't be doing it going forward. Know any good service tech for yamaha that I might could contact?

I have never heard of this before and have run a couple of kodiaks and know many friends with them. But contact a couple yamaha dealers first and ask if they have heard of this. And there isnt a rev limiter other than the reverse one. But how deep mud are you running when this is happening?????

in a tough mud hole? could it be u are getting water in ur airbox, that will definetely make ur engine bog and too much u will stall. if u do get water in there, u must do like 10 oil changes util the oil u get out is the color u put in.

Check to see if the air intake for the belt housing is off or loose. Remove the right hand side plastic and look in the front down low on the housing, you should see a 3 inch plastic pipe. Take alook at this and it may just be your problem It seems the factory had a problem with this or it sure seems like they did and the dealers did not catch it on setting it up. AlaskaBoy.

I'm not running in any mud holes that I shouldn't be able to get out of. I think maybe my tires have something to do with it. I put 27 inch 589s on and i'm sure it bogs it down alot. Even with the jet kit I had installed. Needs more low end power. Really miss that low range the 450s have. Any low end power adding suggestions out there?

That shouldnt be the prob I have run bigger tires and the bike doesnt bog down even in high gear but you have to giver her. But ya the low gear is nice for the bigger tires. And for more low end power get a clutch kit.

okay, i've had this problem and this is what it usually is.
the flimsy piece of rubber yamaha uses to connect the breather tube to the CVT case falls off very often.
then your belt case fills with water, and your bike will act up until you burn the water out of your case.
so, what i did was take the whole bike apart and take out the breather tubs and graft on a piece of exhaust pipe with screws to lengthen the breather tube. then I screwed the rubber piece to that too. Then you just clamp it back on to the CVT case.
Mine's held up well, with no tears in the rubber, and no more studdering and belt slippage.
