Harcore mud/trail ride tires! WHAT KIND?!
#1
I have a 1997 Scrambler 400 4x4. I have the factory tires and rims. They have seen better days and in return I am going to retire both rims and tires. I need to figure out what I am going to go with. I trail ride in Wayne National Forest in Ohio, and there we have a range of turf. A lot of it is rocks, hard pack, soft pack, and my fav....MUD! I was thinking of going with a Big Wheel kit, but am not sure exactly what size and tire I should go with. Price is not really a big concern, but I do not want to give up an arm and a leg for it. Let me know your thoughts everyone! THANKS!

i would say dont get a big wheel kit because of the added strain on parts and the fact that its geared for smaller tires, IMO i think the dirt devils, kenda klaws, or mud lites are great and about 50 otehr ppl will say the same. i have yet to find hardly anymud or snow that i cant go through. they handle better and slide well too. tehy climb great. just my .02

Great info from the both of ya! What size do you think would be best for this?
Good for reminding me about skid....I def need that so that I can at least try to keep up around the corners with all my friends and their Raptor, 400 EX, and Banshees!

What type of rim? I have always used steel, due to I always break aluminum rims. What is the suggestion there?

Which ones slide, climb, and go through the mud the best? What size tire and rim should I pick? Thanks for everything!

What do you want out of it?? Just more ground clearence? I would say dont go over a 25" tire for the fact that you dont have a low range and the drivetrain was not designed for that large of a tire. But Mudlites seem to be a popular choice. As for rims, you can get beadlock rims which are much stronger (but a mud trap) or the ITP C-Series are suppose to be stronger than the regular .190's. That website that I sent you in the PM carries a variety of rims, aluminum and steel.
