Kawi wrenchers...I need your help
#1
OK fellas, my daughter needs your help. She rides a '03 KFX 50 ATV. She (I) feel that thing just doesn't get up and go like it should. She only weighs 45 lbs., and is an excellent rider for someone so young (I won't say how old she is, I don't want to incriminate myself for having an underage rider {disgusted with THAT law})
I have already removed the O-ring from the exhaust pipe, and totally unscrewed the throttle restrictor on the handle bars. Do I need to jet this thing? Is there another restrictor that I've missed?
As always, I thank you in advance for your help. The people on this site have always come through in the clutch. I am looking forward to the responses.

fsu174u, my bro has one of those.
-There is an intake restrictor in the intake manifold. We drilled and filed it. Helps a little, but you hafta do it when you do the other mods. Make sure every little filing is cleaned out. The engine would not appreciate any shavings.
-The compression ratio is 5.9 to 1. That is the biggest reason it is so gutless. Raise it to 9:1. No need to go really high. If it is too high it would need high octane fuel. 9:1 is fine. You just mill the head for this, as far as I know. I am not sure if you can go all the way to 9:1. You need to measure some volumes and calculate it. Hopefully there is enough aluminum to do it. Poissbly you need to fill in the head with more metal and drill the spark plug deeper. I have a few tips on calculating compression ratio on my website.
-The air cleaner is restrictive. Get a twin air filter, one of the universal fit kind, and make yourself a better airbox with a larger filter. That will cause you to need to rejet. But you will get more power.
-The exhaust could be better. I have seen performance exhausts on ebay for it. Rmember your KFX50 is not really a kawasaki, it is a suzuki quadmaster 50, or a suzuki LT50. Search for those names and you should get more results.
I assume absolutely no responsibility for telling you this stuff. I have seen little kids hold the gas down while going downhill to get the maximum effect even with the engine stock and put themselves in a dangerous situation. I have also seen well trained little kids ride better than some adults. they just need to be taught and they need practice. The responsibility lies with the parent/guardian to make sure someone as inexperienced as your munchkin is safe while riding it.

Thanks nyroc...I appreciate the help.
I can't beleive "kawasaki" would even make a comment like that!! My daughter is more mature than that idiot. Like I'm going to modify my daughter's quad so she kills herself. What a blooming moron
I'm always right there with her, on every ride, by her side. I've actually seen her use better techniques than teenagers (and some adults) in difficult situations.
Thanks again

No prob. The bad thing about that 50 is kids may start out with no skill and bad judgement so they need a slow quad, but then they quickly learn and outgrow the 50 so their parents have to find ways of perking it up. Some people would rather beef the 50 up than have to trade it on a bigger quad. That 50 is so gutless. I am amazed how gutless it is.

When I bought Lt80's for my kids they had the exhaust restriction, throttle stop on the handlebars, and also a block in the carbeurator tha lept the slide form traveling to the top. If you have a slide type carb o nit, you might want to unscrew the top off the carb and check that.

We have a KFX 50 for our grandaughter. Once she out grows the gutless power of it I want to Extract more power from it also. I did a search in the kids quad section on it and found a lot of good ideas.

Please accept my appologies....
That was just unacceptable behavior on my part

We have already had some 4 through 6 year old rollovers on that LT50.
I think the 50 is awesome. It is so light that it never even hurt the two little guys it rolled on top of. It actually never even drew any blood (kinda like a Black Lab, but smaller and gentler).
fsu174u - you won't get much power with pipes or intake mods unless you increase the compression. I bet that 50 would wake right up.
