Just checking to see what modifications people are putting on their 650's to squeeze out performance. Air filters? Exaust mods? Jetting? Modules? CDI's? clutch springs? etc. Their is alot of info at the Kawasaki forum, but I'd like to hear from the AC owners. Not looking for a racer or anything, just simple mods people have found worthwhile. Thanks

Shmoky,

Thanks, I have read that, and I have looked at the HL ICM. I also have the epi black secondary clutch spring which I would highly recommend. I have the dynatek CDI ordered ( lots of discussion at the Kawasaki site ) as well. I'm really looking to see if anyone has these mods or intake / jetting work. Also I'd like to know if there are any aftermarket air filters for the AC650 yet.

Dogpoor. I have also herd alot about the Dynatek cdi. So much though I had to talk a friend of mine who has a AC 605mrp into installing one. I won't say anything bad about it but I can't say anything great about it either. It seems to do everything it's supposed to but nothing better than a standard ICM or module. It doesn't start any easier than it did before. Of course it never started hard anyway. It feels like it gave it a kick in the but off the bottom but again it's no better than my 650LE with the HL ICM. I have installed all the mods on his atv and it's set up identical to mine, clutch and all, except for the CDI. I have a good fourty pounds more than him and my LE is about 40lbs heavier than his. I will still pull him in a drag, not by much but I will beat him every time. I'm not saying that the CDI stinks, I'm just saying that I'm not sure it's worth the extra money for what seems to be no more power gains than the HL ICM.
Put some new Mudlites or 589s on it. The difference is amazing. It won't even feel like the same ATV.
All the bad manners that the stock radials have are completely eliminated. No more pushing in the corners or soft mushy handling.
Get the Epi pink spring and make a 5mm thick shim to put in the primary clutch put the shim on tthe inside of the spring against the pulley. Also install there #56 weights in the primary clutch. I know you have no reason to trust me but take my word on it this once and you won't be dissapointed. This will work wonders with that CDI also.
Supertrap Exhaust system. I can't remember what model I have but they only produce one for the AC 650. You will need to rejet but the settings and jets they reccomend were almost spot on. With some slight adjustment The atv runs perfectly and the Plugs are a perfect golden brown. It doesn't miss a beat. I like the system because it makes enough power to feel the difference in the seat of your pants, sounds ultra cool but isn't any louder than the stock exhaust.
NOS Nitrous. Yes, nitrous! I get alot of ooohs and ahhhs over this one. The system is made for motorcycles and it fogs directly into the airbox. I ordered the smallest fogger nozzle from NOS that I could. It's supposed to deliver an extra 20hp. I dont know if it does but it sure is fun. The people at NOS said that the small shot that I'm running should cause no problems with the motor but should provide a good kick in the pants. That was an understatement. FUN, AWESOME,and ultra COOL.
Last but not least. I'm waiting for K&N to release an air filter/prefilter. This will probabally be the last mod that I do to my ATV untill I have to rebuild the motor and then I'll install the parts necessary to make it a 700.
Good Luck and ride safe.
Wook.

PS. I hear if you add a five degree timing key with the CDI it makes a little more power and revs a little faster.

Wookie,
Thanks for the good advice. Yes I have put the mudlites on ( I do a fair amount of hill climbing and mudding ). I believe the exhaust will be worth it, but I'll probably wait until the k&n filter comes out to let the "whole bike breath better". I installed the cdi today and you are about right. I do like the bypass of the reverse limiter and the belt light. My idle is noticeably higher. My bike still won't do wheelies, but I'm 40 years old and don't particularly care about that anyway. Haven't had a chance to open her up yet, but low end seems solid in the "front yard" time trials. I think I'll stop once I have the intake/exhaust/jetting issue done in the next few weeks.

Ride hard.
