what all do u have to do for a 2stroke

more like what don't you have to do to keep them running......yeah you have to rebuild the top end every one or two years I think, and from what I used to know, they run well when they are running...and the rest of the time well ..they don't run at all.

Top ends dont live as long but they're cheaper to work on/modify and so simple a monkey could work on em. Other than that, you have to have the carbs tuned good to make them last a long time and mix the gas with oil when you fill up.

less moving parts in a 2-stroke so in the long run, less maintinance. 2-strokes are faster and easer to work on. as long as you dont mind starting your bike and mixing gas unlike alot of lazy peaple. 2-strokes have a wider power band and more hp to engine dispacement at stock to miner motor mods. a stock top end will last more than 2 years if jetted correctly and maintained, (checking rad fluid, oil, cleaning the air filter after every trip or 10-15 hours of riding, checking tranny fluid). These are easy and simple things to do. I got my first 250r when I was 10 years old. dident re do to top end untill I was 16. it was stock and rode almost every weekend 9 months out of the year. My dad hardly ever helped me and my bike lasted a long time without any major problems. hope this helps late.

It's like just about everything you own. If you take care of it, it will take care of you. Routine maintenance like oil change, clean filter, plugs, coolant are normal stuff that should be done often. If you're a little on the lazy side, then don't bother getting one. My ATC 250r is 19 years old and is only on it's second rebuild. You can't match the power range of a 2-stroke. I wouldn't own anything else. Your decision should also depend on the type of riding you do.
