Default 2000 scrambler 400 2x4 vs. 2001 scrambler 500 2x4

I'm am looking to buy a scrambler and I have found two for sale in the town I live. I'm kind of new to atving and I don't know very much about it. All I know is that both of these are pretty nice and have aftermarket exhaust and sound good. The 2000 scrambler 400 2x4, they are asking $3250 and they'll throw in a set of paddles and rims for an extra $150. The 2001 scrambler 500 2x4, they are asking $3800 for it. They are both at the same place and the guy I talked to said he has rode the 400 and it's pretty quick and he hasn't had a chance to try out the 500. So all I'm asking is for your opinions on which one would be better to get because I'm a bigger guy (6'4'' about 300lbs.) Thanks in advance for any help.

if you want the speed and snap then get the 400 its way quicker than the 500 and a little faster on topend.the prices seem pretty steep though,i paid $4800 for my 02 scrambler brand new from the dealer

They are really 2 different machines. The 400 can be made into a horsepower monster. And the 500 can be made into a torque monster. It depends on if you want to deal with the maintence of a 2 stroke or that of a 4 stroke. Also, if you plan on moddign and want lots of power then get the 400. If you plan of just trail riding and want more torque over horsepower get the 500. JMO

My friend just bought a 2001 400 2x4 Scrambler for $2,800 this past Saturday. You can probably pull the guy down, just make him an offer and tell him thats all you can spend right now. He'll come down some.

I've finally got the guy talked down on one of them. The Scrambler 400 has been sold and the Scrambler 500 that they wanted $3800 for they've decided to go down to $3600. So I went and talked to the bank and they said try to get them down some more. I went back and they've gone down to $3400 plus tax. It's a 2001 Scramber 500 2x4 with a White Brother's exhaust, and it looks good and clean. Does this sound like a good deal? Thanks for your opinions.

i,d offer 3100 out the door and stick to it or walk... the 04' is usually on sale for 5400 if you could bear the differance in price. but i know how it iis when you find the one you want the price really doesnt matter.
