Newbie--Is this a good deal on an '02 Grizzly?
#1
Hi ya'll---to give you a little back ground, I live in AK and just bought a 2001 Polaris Sportsman 500 H.O----it is NOT what I wanted, but the only thing i could get a decent price on used. Anyways Ive always liked Yamaha ATV's and I got a friend selling a 2002 Grizzily 4X4--its loaded with winch, great body and only 150 miles on, also I think its a S.E cause its silver--I know hes taken care of it and he wants $5500 for it--is this a good deal? Mind you I live in AK so everything is a little higher priced up here--any help would be great, thanks---Dave

Get him to drop down a hair if possible. But if its only got 150 miles on it and is still mint (meaning he hasn't rolled it or drowned it), it would be a good ride. You could still take it to Yamaha and make them put the heat kit on it due to the recall thing or whatever, and that would solve the overheat issue that half a million people will tell you about. But with an 02, you avoid the bad axle theory that the other half million will tell you about. I paid $6400 for my 2002 model. I could probably get $5000 out of it with 1500 miles on it. If its legit, haggle that dude some and get him at least midway to 5K if you can and grab it. Make sure you can move your Sportsman though just in case you aren't keeping it.
For the condition of the quad, I don't think you are getting taken even if you dropped the full amount on it. But thats if its still in new condition, cause 150 miles ain't jack.

Hey Scroder,
Steve from the Yamaha shop sold his 2001 for 5100 and it had 149 hours on it. It had 26 inch Mudlights, winch, plow, heated grips/thumb and a plow and that was a steal. Did not know it was for sale when I bought mine, otherwise I would of bought that one instead.
As for a 04 going for 6 thousand it is over 8 grand up here for one when you add the winch and tires/wheels. I paid 6700 for a Kodiak 450 in october when they were not selling quads and my buddies paid 7200 last month when they were selling. As he stated things are alittle higher up here.
Back to you Scroder, that is a great price does it a set of mud tires or stock? AlaskaBoy.
p.s. Welcome aboard if nobody has already said it.
