Default 03 ds vs 04 dsx

I am setting a ds up for drag racing for the dealership I work for.I have a used 03 ds or a new 04 dsx to choose from obviously the boss would like me to use the used one however I noticed alot more aluminum on the 04,making it the lighter of the two.I've ridden both the 04 seems stronger, they both have a rw cdi box.I guess I'm asking is there a noticable performance differance in the 04 vs the 03.No sense in starting with the slower one.If it matters I will probly go with a rw stage II kit. Thanks

i'd pass on the stage two if it is for a dealership, that is old tech there are much better mods now, that cost the same or less, which advertises better for the boss the 04 is lighter but, other than that it should be the same, other thoughts guys can still buy a x so when they see a shiney x that is fast that will be the one they want. thus more sells for the boss

Yea I agree with Sandman.

Get an endcap, a Mr HP 46HV Lectron and maybe a 720 kit and your boss will be smiling and you'll be getting a raise.

Depends on how much you want to put into it.

To go 720, it's preferable to go with a race head, cams, higher comp, etc...

Depends on your budget.

Let us know.

To give you some background I just came from a Yamaha/Arctic Cat dealership were I was for 4 years to a Bombardier dealer.I've modified alot of machines and kept up on what makes them fast but I never thought I'de ever mod a DS for drags ,so I don't have a clue who to go with.My boss gave me the Ron Wood product list and asked me how far we needed to go to be competetive in the local drag circuit. To that I said at least stage two, just knowing what those parts do for a Raptor for instance. So I am thinking the budget may be $2000.I realize I can benefit from the collective knowledge in this forum so that is why I asked.I will get an exact dollar figure from the boss,I'll post a question like "the fastest way through 300' sand for $2500"or something, till then thanks for the suggestions.

P.S. I'm running against the dealer I previously worked for so I'de like to beat a modded yfz 450

nitrous is the mod that has shocked me the most, i have a stage two and a 720 they don't compare the 720 eats the stage two in the first 50 feet it only gets worse from there. the weight on the ds is a big issue, and the gearing if your going to the sand clutch springs are a must.
