Default Cam chain Tension

Hello everyone. I have just recently redone my valve shims due to the fact that they were slapping and making the awful ticking noise. They are all within spec, however the cam chain seems real loose. I was wondering if it is common for the chain to loosen up over time, and if one is supposed to remove a link or something. It has almost been confirmed that the slapping noise is the chain, It looks like it feels like it, and seems like it. My chain tensioner is inand tight, but still no difference. I was wondering if anyone has had this same problem, and if some advice could be given. Thanks so much

PS my quad is in my sig

are you sure you put the tensioner in the correct orientation - ball facing outwards?
