A temperature gauge to check the exhaust temp is an EGT gauge. EGT = Exhaust Gas Temperature. Usually there is some type of probe they goes into the header. Simple ones you just drill a hole, insert the probe and it uses a pipe clamp to secure it. Other weld on a bung to the header and the probe threads into it. I don't know how you can get EGT with out a EGT gauge.

They do have Handheld Infrared Pyrometers. It looks like a timing gun, you point it at what you want to read, and it tells you the temperature of that item. I don't think it could be used to get an EGT. They are more used for tire or brake rotor temps.

I assume you are looking into EGT gauge to help tune your alcohol adventures. Would an A/F monitor work? I think most Air/Fuel Ratio monitors use a Oxygen sensor. So you would still have to install a probe into your header. I don't think most Oxygen sensors are compatible with leaded fuels, I don't know about alcohol though.

Check out Jegs for gauges

Gauges

Here are all the gauges jegs carries. You will find that AutoMeter makes a bunch of different lines of gauges, basically the difference is style.

I think the one that matches the stock tach the best is the Auto Meter Pro-Comp Gauges. If you scroll down the page you will find the EGT gauge.

search for pyrometer. you can buy the gauge with or without the probe. gauges and probes can be mixed and matched as long as they both are/use type K thermocouples.

Is that for the gauge AND the probe?

Would a Air/Fuel ratio monitor work? Something like Holley Air/Fuel Ratio Monitors or Edelbrock Air/Fuel Ratio Monitors
