Default Just Picked up '88 YSR 50cc crotch rocket

Hey all,

Just got this 88 YSR Mini Crotch Rocket....thing seems pretty darn cool.

I dont know how many of you guys have, or know about them, but here it goes.

Ok, I picked up this bike, for free actually, Old owner says it runs, but didnt try it after an accident...it actually looks fine, but the thing is, i have no clue how to get it started.

It was missing a handclutch but i put one on, it has no kickstart (bumpstart) but heres my problem....the clutch, when pulled in, doesnt fully disengage the gear ( the wheel wont roll fully it will drag) so with this, I can't bumbstart it....whats the problem here...

any other tips for this lil machine?

THANKS~
~chris~

My friend has one, but I think it is newer than an '88. He just had his rebuilt with a Toomey silencer, ported, new piston, etc. It's a blast to ride. I'll ask him for ya.

Those are awesome little machines. I bet your clutch is out of adjustment or you may need one.

Do you have any pics? Let me know if you want to sell it.... hehehehe But I live in California.

I see those darn things all over the place, like car shows, and drag races, I always wanted one sounds like you got a good deal, check the adjustment on the clutch and lever, you can still "bump" start it... Just start out pushing in neutral and slap it into gear when you get going. that should do the trick... just hope the clutch works when you get it started.... might be a challenge to stop. but i guess were talking about a 50cc not 450 or anything to steep..
hope this helps

Whenever you can get a photo up on your pic page.

I am looking at the 1991 Yamaha Motorcyles brochure of the YSR50 and its paint scheme is black and yellow, really neat looking.

dry weight is only 174 lbs.
