is there any way to polish brushed aluminum? like a dull pipe, or such?

 

it's easy! if u have a bench grinder, just get the pad and some compound, sears carries it. that's it. buff your way to a shine

 

what do you mean by a bench grinder? like a big belt or disc sander, that you can put a type of pad on?

 

No, a bench grinder. They have the grinding wheels, but you can change them to buffing wheels. You can also buy a pad to put on your angle grinder. If its got very deep machining lines, you will wnat to sand it with a fine grit paper, other wise it takes forever.
I always polish my pipes, they look alot better.

harbor frieght sells them for 59-70 bucks and yes they make liquid polish, but it would take longer.

 

How much do you want it to shine? You can get buffing pads for larger angle grinders. I'd use a fine(soft) wire brush cup on a drill.

 

crocus cloth can be bought in long strips, it's SUPER fine and would be good for taking moderate 'brush' lines out of aluminum, then follow up with a cloth and compound polish.
unless you DO have a 4" angle grinder, then you could probably get the same job done in 1/10th the time and effort. BUT, a polished surface will lead you to very **** behaviors... I stripped my paintball gun barrel of black anodize, then super-polished it and had it clear anodized. I was CONSTANTLY shining it with my shirt, disassembling and washing, etc... It drove me nuts to see marks or fingerprints on it. Un-anodized, polished aluminum is a very fragile surface, you'll see little blems and grease marks really easily.

 

thats ok i want to do it with my pipe, no **** lube involved lol. where can i get this crocus cloth? and how much of a mirror shine will it give, can i put a buffing wheel on my ari grinder?
