V vs. Raptor 660
#2
As a non owner but watcher of these two machines I would say it is a toss up b/t the two in the sand. The V gets my thumbs up in the woods. With all the shifting one would have to do riding in the woods it only makes sense to me for hte V in woods. I say they are equal in the sand because it really depends on what you want the machine to do. They will both easily get your blood flowing on either area. Just my .02 cents.

This has been beaten to death, but there is no comparison in the woods. V hands down. I don't ride in sand here in Kentucky of course, but you would think a well modded raptor would be better there with the lighter weight. Stock vs. stock, the raptor is slightly faster on top end. Once you start modding anything, it's all about how much money you want to spend.

I had a 2002 yamaha Raptor that I traded in on a 2004 kawasaki V-Force. I must say the V-force is a much more enjoyable quad to ride, and I don't miss my Raptor at all. Back in 2002 I had a 96 Banshee that I sold to get the money to buy the raptor. I read all those articles in dirtwheels, you no the one's that said the raptor " has chest flatting acceration" and "best handeling quad next to the 250r" and it was all a load of crap!!!!! The first time I rode my rapor down the street I new I had made a big mistake, I should have kept my 96 banshee.

Don't know about woods but my opinion would be the V due to high torque and auto. In the sand the V is an extremely fun quad. But to beat a raptor you need some work. Anybody that says the V will be a raptor in the dunes does not know or they have never really raced a fair race(equal riders). We ride the dunes every weekend during season(we only miss about 2 or 3 weekends a year). Don't get me wrong the V is fast but to heavy and no topend(stock vs stock). Also the raptor can easily be made a lot faster by just a pipe and some gearing(put a pipe and change clutch on V and you still can't keep up). It would take a lot more for the V to be as fast (only mod i've seen that can beat a slightly moded raptor is the big bore kit for the V).
Don't let anybody tell you different. Pipes and clutch work for the V help but they don't beat the raptor.
Now don't get me wrong, I love the V and would buy it again over the raptor because it is so fun and comfortable to ride and it is a wheelie machine. Just trying to be truthful about it. When I first started looking at the V a lot of people told me how much power it had and it would kill a raptor. LIES!!! So I was a little disappointed at first but then i realized what a great quad we had and if I wanted to beat anything I would just get on my KX500.

There are some people on here that have some very fast V's with stock bore. They don't lie and they can beat raptors and such. Not all V's will but you have to work for it and clutch for the situation like sand or woods or drags.
