Default Grizzly shifting into and out of 4x4

What would happen if a guy shifted in and out of 4x4 while on the move with a 2004 Grizzzly? How about 4x4 to diff. lock while on the fly? I understand that the steering degrades in diff lock....I am more concerned about breaking something.

Thanks for the help..

I shift mine into four wheel drive when moving slowly and it has never so much as cluncked. I think they tell you not to because it makes it handle different and they don't want to be liable if you shift when it is moving and crash.

I have engaged 4WD while on the move many times, but I’ve always done it while the quad was going straight and not under a load and not going really fast (hard to do anyway since you generally have to take your thumb off the throttle to hit the button. I’ve also disengaged the 4WD while moving (more often than not) with no problems.

The diff lock button is another matter, it seems that you must be stopped to engage it, and yes, it is hard to steer when in diff lock mode (not so with limited slip or normal 4WD mode although it is a little stiffer than 2WD mode is)…

No belt problems or associated adjustments so far with about 2000 hard miles on my '02 Grizzly. This includes many miles of Hatfield McCoy trail riding, trail riding in other areas, dragging logs out of the woods for firewood processing (applying enough strain to break my hitch twice), uprooting tree saplings, towing junk cars from one field to another, towing a 5000lb tractor to a parking place, towing a large (empty) ensilage wagon, mowing fields by towing a 628 lb. 50" rough cut mower, and towing a loaded (with brush and other materials) 5x8 utility trailer around the farm...

I switch in/out of 4wd while going slow and straight. No probs as of yet. No belt problems either. The belt transmissions have a bad name, but once you get one, you won't be disappointed.
