Default Mojave kickstarter gears stripped

Took the mojave riding yesterday and the kick starter won't grab anymore. Looking at the service manual, it looks like quite a job to get at the intermediate gear. Has anyone done this, and if so how much did the parts run to repair it. Looks like I'll spend another weekend working on it instead of riding it.

Anyone? I'll be tearing into it this weekend. I scrapped enough money together to grab a z400, maybe it's time to retire the mo' to the yard.

I’ve done it, a long, long time ago. I don’t remember it being a gear that was stripped, it was something to do with the return spring. After it broke the first time it was never right after that, even after being repaired. Oh, and its not real hard to get to, just take the side cover off and its pretty much self explanitory after that.

I've never done it, but, will be interested in knowing if it is like Chawness described it? So, if you can, put an update on this thread. Just in case I need to do it someday to my mojave. I'm always checking out any threads that has to do with mojaves Lt. Dan

Ya I had to do that to my old mojave
Its pretty easy, You just need to take off the Cover, and the rest you can just tell what to do,
It may just be the spring that wore out or even brok, But you wont knwo till the cover comes off
the kickstart gear is around 80$ Can dollors so what ever that would be US

Chawness and Mojavekid13, Thanks for the info, I don't know if it helped out 96lapiscoupe, but it let me know that if I have trouble with my kickstarter, it might not be all that hard to fix
