Why does P700 have 3 different Primary Clutch faceplates to choose from???
#1
I just checked the Kaw. Parts Diagram and noticed that the P700 has 3 different options to choose from for its primary clutch faceplate as follows:
p/n 14041-1161 Cover comp. - std
p/n 14041-1160 Cover comp. - blue
p/n 14041-1159 Cover comp. - red
Obviously the color is different, but you can't see the clutch faceplate thru the black CVT cover??? So what else is different about these faceplates, if anything? I'm wondering if some of these plates weigh more or less to account for differences in altitude and if so, would they offer more performance if used at a different altitude than normally recommended? What do you guys think???
In case you were wondering, the V-force primary clutch faceplate only has 1 option: p/n 16146-1231 Cover Assy.

p/n 14041-1160 Cover comp. - blue
p/n 14041-1159 Cover comp. - red

It has to do with your EBS measurement. What ever your color is stock you match to that one if you need another. If you have a Prairie manual you can see what I mean.

Wildwill,
Unfortunately, I'm too cheap to own a manual yet. Not sure I follow you...why would different P700's have a different EBC measurement? Aren't all P700 primary clutchs the same?

PW ask me about these two years ago, I remember at the time I though they were made to put different pressure on the springs, so as to change shift points.
I remember thinking that Kawasaki wanted us to buy face plates from them instead of springs from others.
That's my guess.

Shotgun,
That must mean that I'm 2 WHOLE YEARS behind PW??? Wow, I've got more to learn about these Prairies than I thought! j/k
So has anyone actually tried using different clutch plates on their P650/P700 to see if it improves performance? Hmmm...I wonder how much they cost? If they do the same thing as trying different primary springs, I'm guessing that it would be more economical to just replace the spring.

It has to do with the clearance between the clutch and the EBS plate that presses against the clutch when the EBS works. From factory it comes with a color that is closest to the correct adjustment. I don't think the different colors will work on your clutch, just the one it came with from factory. Different one will not allow the EBS to work. Hope this helps!

Mikey;
Don't feel bad, I wouldn't have known about them if he hadn't asked, I'm more than two years behind.
Sounds like Wildwill has the answer. I haven't seen any that were colored.
