well today i told my dad to pick up a 12 tooth sprocket at the polaris dealer and the guy that works there that we know said its not worth changing the sprocket. so i was like ok why did he say that, then my dad said he said that i will need to get a chain with a different gap??? and that i will loose top speed??? is this true!!! this guy has supposivly worked in the parts department ofr 15 years so of course my father believes him

you should get sunstar sprockets from hotseat performance.they are alot better and probably the same price if not cheaper than the stealers price.depending on how bad your chain and sprockets are your best bet is to buy the front&rear sprockets and plus the chain,if your chain is wore out or stretched then its just going to ruin your new sprocket.with gearing your going to loose top speed and gain low end or visaversa.hope this helps..

DG, I have to disagree with that statement. There are instances where depending on the motor torque and operating range of the motor, the quad, snowmobile, motorcycle, etc. will acclerate faster and run a higher top speed.

guys i was wondering if the guy is right about a 12 tooth front sprocket makin me loose top speed? teh stock is 11 and i was told going up will gain u top speed but loose bottom end. is this correct. and do i need to get a different gapped chain?

bigger front= higher top speed and in come cases u will loose acceleration but some places this will allow the motor to pull better and accelerate better. smaller back=more top speed and in some cases better acceleration. and you can guess what the oposites are. i would say 12 on the front and 34 in the back. that is usually a pretty popular gearing choice.
