Default Banshee Back Fires, and loads up really slow, PLEASE HELP

I have only had my 99 banshee for about 2 weeks and barely ran a half a tank of gas through it, and all of a sudden it started to back fire, and now it is doing it quite often. And when i start out it is seems really sluggish, and then when i go to get on it, it seems like it doesnt want to go at all until you give it all the gas that it has and hit the power band.

I mean it was working fine for a while and then it started doing this, please help anyone at all. I have no idea what is wrong and i havent had time to call the yamaha shop. P.S. for the half of tank of gas that i have ran it, i ran a gas mixutre of 40:1.

Thank you for your help Eric

Make sure the carbs are really clean, as it seems to be running lean from clogged jets or from too small a size.

When is it backfiring? If it is backfiring from after you let off the gas from 3/4 - full throttle then it usually means your pilot circut is lean. Try turning in your air screw. If that dosn't work then you will need to go bigger on the pilot.

Are you good with that kind of stuff? Its real easy to do. All you need to do is remove the carbs, take off the tops, remove and clean the springs, needles, and then remove the bowl and you will see two jets, a pilot and a main, remove and clean both of these and the holes they are in.

If you have only had a tank of gas in her then you probably don't need to clean them yet. I would suggest going up on the pilot jet or turning in the mix screw.
