Default What to rebuild....250R or Banshee???

I'm looking at rebuilding a custom quad from the ground up...what I'm wanting is something that I can tare up the trails with but I want something I can hit some dunes and drag strips with....I want to find an old 250R or old banshee that needs work..I'm only looking to spend like 1200 on the quad because I'm going to redu everything from the ground up....(all engine mods...extended swing arm and a-arms...axel..I meen you name it I'm going to do it..) I would just buy an old frame and start from there..but if I had to buy everysingle part then I would drain so much money into it..so if I get a quad not in the best shape I could still use a lot of the parts on it sep for all the mods...so what do you think???

One more question...how does the 250R compare in speed with the banshee??

Yep, and the R will run circles around the shee on the track. It all depends on what you want. Either can be setup as trail bikes or dragsters. You need to decide what you want.

Actually, I'm probably going to build it for mx racing...I want to get into mx in a few years...So do you think the 250R would be better for mx?? I already have my scrambler 500 for trailriding but I need an mx bike....what do you think...the 250R for mx

Ive seen both mx but the power from a modded r is more controled and is easyer to ride. A shee can easily mx but you need to know how to ride. Also get the swing arm shortened -2. then you can run no prob. But remember when raceing a shee one of the reasons people dont do it is you need two of everything. I gets $$$. But can be done welll. In fact the 250r spec chasis that they make for the banshee is one of the sickest mx'er there is. Bad a$$ engine with great handleing.

If you test ride both the R and the shee you will decide in 2 seconds which one you want for mx..... 250R

ya...definatly the R....The Banshee is a dinosaur now...the dealers are trying to get them off the floor and blowing them out.The 250r was Sport quad of the century and they will always have parts readily available ..I am building an 86 now and was able to find 90% of the parts on Ebay.I even found stuff like the plastic headlite bezels on the dollar racks at the moto shops.Fast and fun and twice the bike a shee ever will be....This coming from a Yamaha guy.Good luck man. (I still love my Raptor though)

If your starting from the ground up why buy a banshee or honda at all? Find a frame and start from there. If you are serious about what you say its pointless to buy a stock bike because all you'll use off it is a motor and chassis. If your going to mx a banshee you better get an aftermarket frame based off a 250r. Personally if you go banshee your waisting your time

Ya, I thought about just starting from a frame...but I figured I could use a lot of stuff off a complete stock quad..such as plastic and odds and end stuff...I meen this is defenetly going to be a couple year project quad...only because I don't have the upfront cash available and I just want to do one thing at a time..then when I have it done I hope to have a racing machine.

If i was to re-build one for MX, i would defently pick the R
it will out run and out handle the Shee on the track any day!
