Default Looking to buy our first ATV

We just bought a new home with a lot of land, mostly wooded 500 ft driveway we are loking to get a atv that we can use to plow and clear out some trees, stump pulling and hauling away. We have looked at Polaris Magnum 330 4X4and I have also looked at the 400 Artic Cat 4x4 no idea what would do what we need and the salesmen seem to bash the competition so no Idea what would be a good investment. We need a work horse and we love to play. Looking to pay around 5500.

I would suggest either the Suzuki Eiger 400 4x4 (you can get either auto or auto-clutch) or the kodiak 400 4x4 (it is auto). Both are good machines with proven reliability, if you shop around you should be able to find either one of these two around the $5000 range or below. $5500 for either of the two quads that you mentioned is way to much, especially considering they do not have as proven track record with reliability as the other manufactures (i.e. kawasaki, honda, suzuki, & yamaha). Just my $.02

I am partial to Hondas, just because I have owned a bunch of them for years, with no problems. For plowing and work, you want to have a fairly powerful machine. But, your price range, limits you to the Rancher 350 category. The Rancher is a superb trail ride, but I have not used it for any serious work. Is your driveway paved?

If you want a work horse get the Arctic Cat but get the manual, belt drive autos are nice but they are not great for heavy work. The AC 400 IRS manual is the "HUMMER" of ATVs

The Foreman would probably suit your needs. Honda reduced the retail price of the 450 so you might be able to get one for around $5500. Out the Door.

There are really a few quads that would suit your needs. It just depends on which quad catches your eye.

I was just thinking that it is going to be harder to plow an unpaved surface.

depending on how big your stumps are, I dont think your going to be pulling too many out of the ground, hauling them away is somthing that sounds right.. but I would think you may want to go with a bigger ATV, 600-700cc class

The eiger is a great choice having a limited budget. It's a good do-all machine. Eventually, you will probably be able to afford another machine for increased capacity for hauling, towing, plowing or such , in which you can buy a higher priced one with more power and goodies, but you will not want to sell the eiger because it can be either a workhorse or a fun machine. Good luck with your decision...lots to choose from. Late.
