Hey all, I own a 250r, 84'. It has flat track rear wheels with new turf tamers, I had just installed, I am getting the origianl rear wheels back, and going to put some 20x11's on that set. I am currently running the 18x9.5 turf tamers. How much speed am I sacrificing with this set up? -Mike

 

if your going from 18's to 20's you won't be losing anything. top speed will increase, the 250R has enough power to compensate for the higher gearing down low too. with the exception of increased ground clearance, you probrably won't notice the change.

I put some new 22.5x11 on my 200s, and even though that is the specified size they don't fit well. The orginial tires were a bit convex, while these new ones are flat. The corners touch front fork a little bit.

I love the new tires otherwise. Unless you want orginial (which you said you do) I wouldn't want anything else. New ATV tires are much more aggressive in mud/sand or whatever.

 

i meant just the rims, not the tires too. I was going to use 20x11's which is the original size of the original tire. I planned on using realters for mudding, how much top speed would i gain approx?

 

My R ran about 74mph with 20inch tires on the stock rims and I am guessing it runs about 45 with 18 inch tires on 8 inch rims. Major difference. I am fixing to put the 20 inch Ohtsu's back on. The 18's are low profile fast trackerr's.

 

Yikes!, thats incredible. 18 in tires make that big of a difference, wow. I think i'll get a couple extra sets of rims. Realters for sand and mud, my aftermarket ones for flat track and some good 20x11 holeshots, failing that more turf tamers lol. how does this sound for my riding? -Mike

 

They shouldn't make that much difference. The easiest way to approximate the difference is since an 18" tire is about 10% smaller than a 20" tire you would lose about 10% of your top speed. Keep in mind though different brand tire that may be labeled the same size on the sidewall can be very different in reality. Basically not all 20" tires are exactly 20". To further complicate things a 20" tire in general will "grow" at high speed more than an 18". Just think of how the tires of a dragster are short and fat when it is standing still and get taller and skinnier as the car goes down the track.
