250R or Tri-Z 250r which bike is better?

I love my R but have never ridden with anyone who has a tri-z. I think I might try to buy one just because there aren't many of em left out there. Is there anyone who ever raced one in here. Which handles better.

I have 2 85 r's and 2 85 z's. The z's seem to have more low to midrange power. The r's catch up by 3rd gear and it is all over for the z then. They both handle well. The z seems tail heavy. Some say this is from the tank being under the seat. The z's turn more heads in the pits, the r's turn more heads on the track. I think the r motor sounds better too. Hop up parts are way more plentiful for the r's also. The z's are way cool tho. Everyone who sees them has to stop for a better look. I am a Honda man so my opinion may be a little biased toward the r. I also have an 86 t-3. When I get it rebuilt, I will let you guys know how the green machine stacks up against the red and the yellow.

I have an 85 250R, and, a Tri-z. I have had 5 85 Tri-z's and a couple of 250r's (and quite a few others). I love the Tri-z's because of how rare they are (in comparison) and how much attention they attract. My 85's had great low and mid (as the previous thread stated) but I always lacked top end (no comparison to the 250r in the top), however, my current 85 now has an 86 engine in it which has the 6 speed tranny and I can tell you that stock for stock, they are pretty much on par. My Tri-z with the 6 speed has port/polish, head work, 38 carb, secondary boost port, Boyseen power reeds. It is now quicker and faster than my 250r which is piped and jetted only. It is also quicker and faster than my friends 03 banshee(piped only) and my other friends 04 LTZ 400 (stock). I believe that the 250r is definitely the best (all around) 3 wheeler ever made for power and reliability(stock), of course, once you start working them, anyone is faster than the other (just depends how much work you have into it).

I say forget both and get a tecate! LOL But of course I am alittle bias. I do think that for a 2 stroke the honda will be the best bet. Parts are everywhere for it stock and aftermarket. Hondas are also known to hold together and more reliable than others..........peace

I have a tri-z. An 86 to be exact. Sadly I am selling it. I have no problems beating 250R's. They are fast bikes. There is tons of top end in the 86's because they have 6 speed tranny's and they are geared a little differently. I am actually selling mine right now. I have a new YFZ 450 and don't have teh room/time to work on it. Email me if anyone is interested.

There is a big difference in top end on the 85 5spd Tri z and the 86 6spd. Desertbound is correct, I see his has a 310 kit, and my 85 with 86 6spd also has quite some mods (not a big bore though) and, even when stock, my 85 250r had nothing on it, if anything, i thought the 86 had a little more, now, there is no comparison, my 86 blows out my 250r from start to finish with no problem. Since I had so many 85 5spds, I know that the top end was lacking "big time", the 6spd is awsome.

Yeah it hauls but. Didn't notice much difference with the 310 kit. Maybe some low end grunt. Then My brother raced me on my YFZ which is no where near stock, and he not only was side by side most of the time, but he beat me a couple times. They are fast, and definatly attention getters.
