Pro circuit T4 headpipe glowing red hot!! need help
#1
I have an '03 kfx400 and i installed a pro circuit T4 exhaust and headpipe 2 days ago. I just noticed today on the way home that the headpipe was literally glowing red hot where it bolts to the block. Is this normal??? What could be wrong??? thanks

My pipe does the same thing. I posted the same ? and got mixed responses. It has done it for months now and no problems so I am not worried. How do you like the T-4 ?

If you put on the pipe without changing your jetting, you are running too lean.
Rejet your carb or you will eventually fry your motor. Same with you outinfront.

I love the muffler and head pipe. I called pro circuit and they said "we recommend jetting up one size with the addition of the head pipe and muffler, but it won't hurt anything if you dont." When I tried to remove the 4 little screws on the bowl of the carb I started to strip them out. Someone suggested using an impact screwdriver so I bought one, but havent tried it yet. Any other suggestions for removing the screws without destroying them???

Mie does not run lean. I had it tested on a gas anylizer(spelling?) at a cycle shop. It was in the green. I figure why would they lie, They would have charged me to jet it. They did say they could jet it to change the low end or top end power.

i have a p/c header on the pred and it does not glow at all. it was rejetted. all it does is turn to a cool looking purple and stays that way even when it is cool. and i ride in 110 degree + weather

You should always rejet when adding exhuast. When the motors run lean they also run hot as a result. That's probably why your header turns bright red. You could a fry your piston rings when running lean. just my 2 cents. Good luck. When taking the screws off the carb I had to buy new ones. The stockers are cr@p.

I called pro circuit and they recommended jetting up 1 size. I went up to a 145 which is more than 1 size since my stocker was 130. Do you recommend jetting up more than that?? I raced my friends bone stock z400 and mine wasnt that much faster than his. I bought the full PC system and I don't think I have it jetted right because I didn't notice much of a power difference.

if you have the extra cash take to somebody who has a dyno machine and let them jet it. then you know it is right. i got a extra 4-5 hp by doing that
