P 360 holeshot module
#1
Bet this message title gets some double takes. Anybody ever tried one on the 360??????? I know, I know, more compression, retard valves, and port and polish, but I aint ready to do all that yet. Looking for the magic fix ( plug and play)
But seriously folks, still waiting for my sudco jets(almost as slow as my dealer) and have almost 800 miles on quad. No problems and I think engine is probably running better than ever.Seems to have really loosened up. Checked valves twice now and they are right on the money (although they are a little noisy tick, tick, tick)
I am also looking forward to syn oil at 100 hrs (85 hours presently)I may try amsoil because it is a true syn, but mobil one is easier to get.
Slow day at work, so I am just daydreaming

MOSES... 1st... do you have a speed sensor to hook up to??? if you do, then you would atleast have the right wires... 2nd... we'd have to figure out, if your CDI makes any timing advance changes, based on the output from the speed sensor... if you have a speed sensor, I'd be willing to borrow you my Nabor module to try out... let me know...

Heyyyyyyyy---theres an an offer--
You mention a speed sensor?? unfortunately I do not have the service manual and i am not real sure if i have one---I do have the Kaw speedometer and it is definitely electrical, not mechanical---Any EZ way to check?? maybe I can go to the parts listing and see if its listed??
Work with me newbeatle and make a lot of 360 people go a little bit faster.

oldman, you'd better hook up with newbeatle on that offer... I have often worndered myself if any of these plug and play mods for the 650 would have any effect on the 360 or if they would even plug up.. Where would we look for the speed sensor to be?? I do have a repair manual if that helps.. Seems od that kawi would retard the timing on a 360, guess anything is possible. What are sudco jets??

UINTHAS / MOSES ... I'd expect that since the rear drive train is the same ( or at least very similar ), that if you have one it my be in the same place ??? The speed sensor on the big Prairies is at the very bottom of the engine, on the right side... it is likely best viewed with the CVT cover off... I think it is a 2 ( maybe 3 ) wire diode type device that pushes in ( o ring sealed ), & retained with a tab & one or two bolts ( I'm doing this off memory, as my manual is at home ) into the bottom of the engine / trans, & senses something rotating past it ( it functions like a proximity switch )... probably picks up the crankshaft lobe that the pistons are attached to...
EDITED ... ( OK, probably not... more like something in the transmission, as it would need to pick up movement with something in direct relation with the tires, to eliminate error, with low range / high range on the transmission ... if this is the case, it is more likely to work ??? )
The modules are installed at the CDI, so the manual would need to be consulted ( the wiring diagram ), to determine which wire to hook to ( it is pink on all the model year & displacement "bigger" Prairies...
if the 360 has the same speed sensor, the CDI would have to retard the timing at take off, like it does on the "big" Prairies, in order for a module to function on the quad... this IMO, would be a long shot, but not totally without possibility... there is also the possibility that the function of the CDI, is not the same, & it could damage either or both, the module, & CDI ??? If all of the parts were there, I'd would be willing to sacrifice one of my modules in the name of science... if someone where interested ???
I'd be interested in hearing some of the electrical "guru's" opinions, on weather the CDI's function is likely the same or not ???

Hey uinthias
go to
www.sudco.com
they have every jet possible for our bikes and they also seem knowledgable---minimum order with them is $15.00, so i ordered the next bigger pilot jet and the next 3 or 4 larger mains for my bike. i think mains are like $3.oo apiece

Hey newbeatle--I'm crazy---I'll be the guinea pig--maybe I can sweeten this deal--I dont know the price of the module, but I have a super fast really expensive like new condition DIAL A Jun/// I mean Dial a Jet that just maybe you could prove or disprove??? It aint doin me any good and if you aint usin the module!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Newbeetle/OleMan,
Here's a thought/guess for you two to consider. It seems to me that the easiest way to determine if the P360 has a retarded timing (from 0 to 3mph) built into the cdi is to simply cut the speed sensor wire right before it goes into the cdi.
In otherwords, if the P360 cdi is receiving NO SIGNAL from the speed sensor and the CDI actually REQUIRES this speed sensor signal to adjust the timing from Retarded on take-off to non-retarded at higher speeds, then the motor should start running funny right (stay retarded at all speeds)? I seem to recall someone saying that they wired up a switch with the DG holeshot and it sent NO SIGNAL to the stock cdi when they turned it to "off" and the result was the motor ran with more retarded timing than normal as I recall.
If you Cut the speed sensor wire and the motor runs just like it did before, then I would assume that there is NO RETARDED TIMING (on take-off) built into the P360 cdi OR that the retarded timing may be based on rpms instead of speed! In either case, the DG or other brand module will not help the P360.
This is all just a guess, so feel free to ignore this comment if you'd like.

MOSES... Sorry... I already have Dial-a-jets installed ( it takes 2 with the twin cylinder )... but I may consider a trade ( I'd like to put one on our 300 Prairie ), so don't be in too much of a hurry to get rid of it ( I really think if dialed in right, that you can achive both better fuel economy & performance with it ???...
1st off, we'd need to find out if you actually have a speed sensor... I'd still like to keep the modules, for testing against... but would borrow you one, if we decided it was worth trying ( you had all the necessary equipment ) ( hook ups )... after I get the chance to test the modules at the Drag Strip, & get time slips on runs with them, I'll likey be willing to part with either the DGR original Hole Shot module, or the Nabor 1st run module that I have ( unless I see something unexpected & outstanding, in which I'd want to study further )

MIKEY... you could be right, I've never run mine with the pink wire not hooked up to a module... when I damaged my speedsensor, when that belt exploded last summer ( belt testing ), with the CVT cover off, the quad still ran normally, just the speedo didn't work... however I still had a module hooked up at the time ???
