Default any suggestions on my 650 problems??

While riding the other day I was following suit and tried to cross a dried up creek bed when we realized it was not quite dried up! So to make a long story short while being pulled out I attempted to assisst, when I hit the throttle in reverse I realized the front was not spinning then I realized when the rpms peaked the tires, all of them, were not moving at all. after I got out the bike started pulling but it was too late the belt was smoked totally! WHile riding it home my buddy wanted to ride so I let him. When he brought it back the belt case was covered in oil. The oil came from the top of the engine. THe breather box had standing oil in it and it smoked a little wich makes since! This is the second belt. I asked the dealership about upgrading the spring and they said no it voids the warranty. SO what in the word do I do! I told them I thought the belt never was adjusted properly! I thought of trading off for a ...........nother bike! I only have 115 miles on it so I think this is unacceptable. TEH dealership says we will fix you up but I don't want a bandade for a heart-attack Iwant to fix the problem for good I need a bike that will handle work and play! So I am looking the honda Rubicon. I don't want to I love this 650 and all its goodies but reliability is my number one concern! If the belt is going to continue to be a problem then I bought the wrong bike! I do have a 2 year warranty but it is just anoying I just want to ride/work, in that order and no more trips to the dealership!

Default any suggestions on my 650 problems??

Dear Articcop,

It sounds to me that the belt was too loose and was in need of adjustment. One of my friends with a LE650, had to have his adjusted just after he picked his up new. His went into the limp mode during his first ride and it was attributed to his belt. In his case, they took out the smallest of the two shims and his is working just fine now. As for the Honda Rubicon, we were in Utah last year and we learned of a man who had rolled his Rubicon 650 while up in the mountains. The cost to replace the Headlight assembly was $1,500.00. That's right, Fifteen hundred dollars. Apparently, Honda has placed all of it's computer componets inside the headlight assembly and that is how much it costs to replace it. The man now rides an Artic Cat 650. As for me, I will not buy an ATV that does not have low range and differential lock. I wish you well with your cat. Cat650.

I just thought about what I just posted. I'm just still upset about what I went through with Arctic Cat. It cost me alot of money and down time. Arctic Cat finally agreed and gave me my money back. My bro loves his AC and has had no problems at all with his 500. Good luck with your CAT. When they get all the bugs out it will be the beast I wish I had, I just couldn't wait that long.

After 10 hours of use, have your belt readjusted & on the tight side of the Belt Specs.
If your Cat Dealer can't figure it out & you don't want to do it yourself, then take it to a Kawasaki dealer, they will adjust your belt correctly.
You can use a "Black Spring" this will not void your 2 yr warranty.
Remember that when you are in reverse, you are in high range, be sure to engage 4wd if needed & use your reverse override button, this override button must be pushed in & held in to engage the override.
Always use low range when driving thru techical areas, hill climbs & any slow riding.

Default any suggestions on my 650 problems??

well today was another great day for the wonder ful 650. My dealership says artic car will not warranty the second belt and it is my problem. They also said changing any springs will void the warranty. So I called AC dirrectly and they said we will work on it. I replied "at 110 miles it is deffinately your problem". The belt was never adjusted correctly so we will see what happens. My thoughts are if an epi kit voids a worthless waranty, why the heck not !?! THis is very unacceptable!!

Some wrong size shims may your problem, your dealer may not know how to fix this issue. Find a dealer that can turn a wrench. Call Arctic Cat and ask them where the closest Catmaster Tech is. Your Cat will be reliable with the proper adjustments.

i am running oversize tires and i have no problems since i had the dealer install the pink primary spring and a black secondary
they also tightened up the belt deflection and i have no limp mode problem since.
the carbs were out of sync also, but they fixed that and my dealer says the epi clutch will not void the warranty
