Lights on 1985 ATC 250R
#1
My front and tail lights on my bike don't work. (1985 ATC 250R) Doing a search on this topic I read on one of the threads of someone talking about a fuse. Is there a fuse on this bike? If so where? Last I remember there were working. Is there a way to test the light bulbs with out buying new ones. Reason I don't want to buy new ones is like I mentioned, they were both working and for both bulbs to go out would be a big coincidence. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

The bulbs are not likley the problem. I dont know where it is located on that machine ( if i get mine today then i will start looking for it so i can help a little more ) but that sounds like the culprit. If it is not, start chasing wires and check your switch its very possible that could be whats wrong.

Kasey is right. There isn't a fuse on the R. It's easy enough to check the bulbs for starters. You can disonnect the headlight and remove the bulb easily. When you do this, MAKE SUE YOU DON'T TOUCH THE GLASS PART OF THE BULB. You can look at it and you should see two "springlike" filaments inside the bulb. If they're not there, then the bulb is blown. If they are then you eliminated on possibility.
More likely than not, your connections are dirty in your wiring system. What I would do first is take off your "On/Off" switch and make sure it's clean inside. Then I would take off the gas tank and look for the wiring harness connections between the radiators. I would check to make sure they are clean, then I would clean the ground wire connection that connects to your voltage regulator (it's mounted on the tail section of your bike and looks like it has cooling fins on it). More likely than not, it's dirty/corroded connections.
While you are at it, check the whole wiring harness to see if there are any rub points that broke a wire. I've never seen this happen before, but there is always a first. If you've done all that and there is still no spark, then you could have a problem with your stator. That is the unlikely culprit, so I would check my connections first.
Good Luck and let us know if you have any luck.
