Hello All,

Well, I finally built up the nerves to tear all of the plastic and the gas tank off of my Rancher and adjust the valves. The local Honda shop here does not have a good track record of repairs so I decided to do it myself with the aid of my Service Manual I bought. I can honestly say that this was EASY!!! The hardest part is getting the plastic off and now that I have done that the next time will be a sinch. Just a heads up that it is not difficult if you have that "Mechanics Edge". Happy Riding and Mechanicing!!!

The 400EX valves were easy to adjust too, just the plastic and all those plastic rivets were a pain.

All this talk of removing plastic sounds like a pain in the a$$. Kinda makes me glad that I only own bikes with three wheels. Two bolts to remove the tank and I have complete access to everything enginewise.

Even for people who are not mechanically inclined like myself, the service manual led me right through it.

The bad part obaout having to remove your plastic to adjust the valves is that you really need to re-inspect the adjusters after a few rides. Even when torqued properly, thay can sometimes loosen.

The Dealer has them ( or can order them) and they are $40.00.

The manual can be purchased from www.helminc.com or go to the honda site and go to thier parts page. It will eventually get you to the hlem site.

I ordered my manual from www.helminc.com. It cost $40 +$4 shipping, it took about a week to get. I would suggest it to anyone.

Now if they would only get the service manual for the Recon in I would be set.
