03 700 sp running badly
#1
My machine has started acting up. Seems to be when warm, after the fan has kicked on (which it seems to do rather soon & frequently). It sputters - chugs - backfires out exhaust. Found if give some choke helps. Any ideas what I may check???? Thanks

My bud left his 04.5 600 here and was doing the same thing. I checked the plugs and one wire was not seated=intermittent single jug action .Put both wires down firmly and runs great. Might hve been a stick? Simple but worth checking.

Checked filter, cleaned even though was not very dirty. Repositioned foam holder and clear vent hose. Still acting the same. Was going to check plugs last night. After about 15 minutes of trying to get right one out was wondering what #$%^& engineering misfit designed this. Tried socket and their plug wrench to no avail. Was going to drain carb float bowl but unsure if screw on bottom with hose on it is drain? Screw is sure pretty tight.

Hey Upnort,
I remember when my 600 was always running like crap. I had the same symptoms as you once, and it turned out to be stuck
vacuum slide in the carb... some dirt our a piece of casting was causing it toget stuck down. take your airbox off and start it up,
snap the throttle open and see if the slide in the carp does up... also just try to move it with your fingers. I've also heard of the
slide spring popping out of place and causing the same problems. another thing to check is if the carb vent hose that goes up behind
the gas tank is getting pinched off when you put the seat on.
Also, did you ever get the carb update done that polaris just came out with???? Mine has never ran so good since I did the
update!!! I'd be happy to help you with it sometime if you'd like. Oh yeah, one more thing, check the carb boot, from the carb
to the engine, mine had a 3/4 inch crack in it right next to theclamp at the carb! They have a new updated boot out for this also,
my dealer gave me the part for free. Dan

I agree with all Dan states, especially about the performance gain after the update.
One more thing to check; on the carb vent line there should be an inline filter, some didn't have it from factory. Dirt will get sucked into carb if not.
