what type of oil for my ds?
#1
I know it needs 10w40, but can I use any old 10w40 in the auto parts store or do I need to go to a dealer and get special atv oil b/c of the clutch?? also the owners manual says NOT to use synthetic. I don't have access to any exotic oils around here, just the name brand ones.

This always opens a can of worms. The manual says that you shouldn't run a synthetic other than theirs. The factory oil is a high quaility fully synthetic. I still run it, but I am sure I am the only one on the forum who does. I have heard of people running just plain car oil, and even rotella diesel oil!!! I would not reccomend it. I would use a motorcycle/atv oil that is designed for wet clutches. Most of the guys on here who have some money in their motors use some form of high quality and expensive synthetic oil such as valvoline, honda, or similar. You can do a search of past post as there is a new post on oil every week. Good luck, and don't forget that good oil is cheap insurance.

I use bel-ray semi-syn, any good oil, syn. or petroleum based, desinged to be used in wet clutches should do just fine. Baja is right $1.25 a quart oil vs. $3.00/qt. oil, how much will it really cost you per year?
