Do I have to use Yamalube to change oil?

trahsub, you can use regular motor oil with no problems. If you really want to protect your investment you should try synthetic oil. One of the best is Amsoil, they have a synthetic oil especially made for 4-stroke engines. For more info and a free product catalog go to:

No I repeat NO don't ever use normal car motor oil in any atv it will cause damage to the clutch because atv oil is formulated for a wet clutch and has additives to keep the clutch from slipping i'm not saying it will cause damage right away but it will in time normal oil does not have the additive for the clutch because a car does not have a clutch in the oil i use silkolene and have been very happy with what i've seen from it

If you want bad shifting go ahead and change brands, as far as I have been concerned Yamalube was the only product out there that my bike shifted without loosing gears in between.

Mobil 1 is good stuff never had a problem with it, Amsoil uses higher quality base stocks in their synthetics that's the main reason I switched over to Amsoil, cost is about the same. It's an old wives tale that regular motor oils will cause your clutch to start slipping because of the so called "friction modifiers" in regular motor oils. I ran an old Suzuki LT 185 for 10 years with Valvoline 10w-30w and never had a problem with the clutch, this quad is still running today, now with Amsoil 4-stroke 0w-40!
