Broken Frames, blown wheel bearings and torn cv boots
#1
I'm just beginning to feel sorry for my friend who bought a 2001 300 articat. No offence to anyone, but the thing is bananas. First, he takes the thing off a few jumps and all a sudden, the frame is sheared right off just behind the gas tank. He has a jar full of the small ***** that are in the wheel bearings because he has to replace them so frequently. The funniest thing is going riding with him. Each time he parks the quad up, he covers his eyes and looks at the cv boots. Apparently, the things rip very easily. Just to cut the cake for him, he grills one of my pigs and flips the quad over nearly twice. How to I know? I found what was left of his brake lever stuck in the road. The marks where so big... on the road and the quad. LMAO!!! The quad is a wrech. Tell me, anyone have any problems with this particular quad? I mean, when he first bought it, it was almost awesome, but tell me, at an idle, are the handlebars suppost to vibrate the h*ll out of your hands like harley davidson

Well im in the process of putting a new cv boot on my 01 300. It started to twist and it ripped it pretty bad. I have had the thing in many times for very squeeky breaks. And yes the handlebars to vibrate but only at idl;e and in nuetral on mine but its not as bad as you described it lol. The only other problem i have had was that i have had to replace the voltage regulator tiwce already. Besides this its been a great machine it goes through anything.

first of it sounds like your buddy beats the hell out of it pretty good, and i would suspect that the previuos owner did too. Cv boots will rip wuite often unless you install proper guards, which i believe come from the factory now. and wheel bearing will go to hell quite often if you ride ina lot of mud and water, the thing to do there is go to a bearing shop and get some truly sealed bearings. My cat has not had one problem execpt for the fact that the stock tires suck ***

Yes, the machine will go through anything... but my friend does beat the hell out of the poor thing. He was told he might have bent his connection rod after filling the engine full or water due to an "undone airbox connection." So he is a little rough on his quad, but it is all in fun until something breaks. Sounds to me like he wants to trade it in for a 650. Lets see what happens to that one.

A 300 Cat is not a sport quad, it weighs way to much for tht crap. If you want a machine to jump get one of the light weight sport jobs and quit using a mule to do steeple chases. Breaking a frame tells me it was way past abuse and into too stupid to live long.

A/C are tanks. I have a Yamaha and an A/C, one for play and one for work. As long as I dont get them mixed up all is well. Tell your friend to just do drive it off a cliff and get it over with.

As you can see below my wife and I each have the same quad as your friend. They each have around 1000 mi. on them, and have been very good quads other than being cold natured in the winter when first started. I think I may have this fixed by turning the pilot scew out to 3.5 turns from closed, but its to late in the year to know for sure. I have had to replace one cv boot but I kind of blame myself for that. I heard some noise while I was riding and should have stoped to cheak it out but did not. It turned out I had got a big stick jamed in the rear cv shaft and did not remove it when I should have. We have rode them very hard in the rocks of S.E. Okla. and have had very good luck with them.

I have replaced 2 CV boots and a set of brake pads and as we speak I have a well worn wheel bearing and 2 worn out shock bushings at 1750 miles but thats not bad considering what I put mine through- if its not in a water or mud hole, its on its way to one

What is the difference between the material they use on truck cv boots. They hardly ever tear. Maybe they should start making out of that material. But then again if you dont have to replace them that much then a/c is losing money.
