About two weeks ago I went to clean my filter on my 300ex I hadnt realy looked at it since I bought my Quad (4 months ago) and I realized my filter was K&N. I was wondering if I need a jet kit for just a filter? Im not sure if their is one on my quad becouse I have no clue what how to find It. I know its in the carb but thats about it.

if it's a K&N just get a K&N Recharger kit from your local parts store, it has the cleaner and the oil all in one kit. you probably already have the jet kit in the carb but clean the filter and ride it then check the spark plug and see how it's running (lean rich or just right)

For starters, it's not wise to wait 4 months to even look at your air filter. Check if your quad is running lean and take it from there. There are a lot of posts here on how to do a "plug chop" to check main jetting.

You have jets in your carb. It won't run without them. First, turn off your gas. Put your hand on the bottom of your carb, feel that 17mm hex head? Take it out and keep it clean. Then, after the plug is out of the bowl (the 17mm), put your finger in and you should feel another hex head. That's your main jet. It takes a 6mm socket to take it out. Do so. Look on the side for a number. If it's a .122, it's stock. If you have a K&N and an aftermarket pipe, go up about 3 sizes, to a .130. It should run great then. A new main jet should cost (at most) $12 at a Honda dealer, a little less at other places.

At my local Honda place it is $1.61 tax included for a new one, and 50 cents or free(whatever they want to charge) for a used one. This is for a 250R, but should not be any more for anything else.

dirttrash,
how did you not know that you had a K&N? 300ex come with foam. You should clean your air filter more often then every 2 months... it will run a lot better. My 400ex has a lot more power with a fresh filter. Don't use motor oil on your K&N only use the K&N oil! Sorry can't help you with the jetting stuff. Good luck
