Default gas for a 12:1 or 11:1 c.ratio in a raptor

can I use a 97 octane gas in a raptor with a 12:1 or 11:1 compression ratio?? I want to buy a piston that offere me one of those 2 options but is difficult to me to get a 100+octane gas, is too necesary that kind of gas?

I run 12.5:1 on my EX and I just get premium ( 93 octane ) and then head to the airport and get 112 - 118 octance. Then mix half and half and you should be good to go. I have been running this setup for about 4 years with no problems at all. This kind of setup isn't really necessary but it helps from things getting to hot and helps things fire when it should. 97 or higher should be alright for 11:1, try to stick around 104 for 12:1 and higher.

Glad to see your wanting to wake up that Raptor.

NO! The only high comp. piston I know that can safely run pump gas in the raptor is a Ross 10.5 or 10.75:1. JE pistons are a higher comp then what they are called and some have had problems with them cracking from using too low of octane or possibly some other reason. The Ross looks like it's twice the quality also.

Don't buy your high octane gas from the airports...AKA AvGas. The gas that is used in airplane has freon in it, to keep the gas from freezing at the high altitudes. If you run AvGas in your ATV the freon that is added into the gas eates away at the oil that it coating your cylinder walls. So you will get alot more friction and in the end result a much shorter life for you piston and cyclinder walls. I can NOT explain how much you should not run airplane fuel in your ATV. I have heard that it is OK for two strokes, but is very bad for four strokes. The freon doesnt get burned up after detonation occurs, and it eventually makes it was down to your crack and in your gears and your bearings, then it makes its way up to your came and reduced the life of that.

I used to use AV gas all the time in my Warrior and it doesn't hurt anything at all. If there is freon in the gas than I highly doubt it will do damage. Airplane engines work the exact same way car, quad, and every other engine on the planet and if it were doing damage to the engine they wouldn't use it, especially when your 2,000 ft in the air! The main difference in AV gas is that lead is added for extra reliability and lube for the engine, they create the best gas for airplanes for a good reason. Having low quality gas that high in the sky is a bad mistake.

Freon is a gas, not a liquid, when not under pressure. There is no way av gas has freon in it.

The freon doesnt get burned up after detonation occurs
Even though ti doesn't have freon if you have detonation it won't matter what kind of gas you are using, your going to ruin your motor.

This being said I wouldn't use av gas anyway. It is not designed for what you want to use it for.

I agree with what sixsixT said.

Ok, well I can definitely say I'm new to this. I'm looking to upgrade my 400ex without having to out the bore kit in it. I was reading a dirt-wheels forum when i came across something that interested me. I want to put an 11:1 Ross Racing Piston kit in the 400. Now the quad is stock other than a full dmc alien exhaust that i just got. I have a filter/airbox coming too. And i was wondering if i could put this kit in it without having to mod anything else. And if so, where can i find it?
thanks for the help!!
